you don't do it sending tanks in to a urban environment alone.
There has to be always infantry with the amour and that counts for ALL the MBT in the world.

I believe that the leopard II is of the same quality as the Challenger II and the M1A2

Tanks are meant to be used in the open field, to punch through enemy lines and use it's mobility to strike deep into the enemy's rear echelons. Tanks can, do and have however fought in urban enviroments very effectively although they have to be more careful and must work closely with infantry. If caught alone they are extremely vulnerable to infantry attacks at close quarters. Working closely with infantry however keeps them safer, the infantry advances ahead and keeps an area around the tank safe, the tank provides fire support to any strong resistance. Once a block has been clear they move up and do the whole thing over again. The supporting infantry has to make sure the flanks and rear of the tank are clear of any enemy infantry.

The Abrams is without a doubt the best tank in the world. The British Challenger might be its equal but in either case they are #1 & #2 and its a toss-up as to which is better. Next would be the German Leopard II but it's not in the same class as the Abrams and Challenger.

When we took Baghdad the US forces conducted what they called Thunder Runs. Mechanized units of Abrams and Bradleys racing through the streets attacking anyone who resisted. It was a slaughter. Any Rep Guards or Fadayeen who tried to stop them were utterly destoryed. The US lost one Abrams to an RPG.

The Abrams tank has a known vulnerability in its rear armour and in an urban environment that weakness can be targetted by RPGs. No modern tank performs well in urban environments because they are designed primarily for manoueverability on the battlefield.

any armored vehicle, including the M1 is succeptible to RPG, mines, AT munitions, and being in an urban environment only makes matters worse. The effective range of the M1 is in the thousands of meters, most urban combat happens in 10s of meters, if not feet, so the M1 would not be as effective as say, a squad of dismounted infantry.

As for its actual lethality, and maneuverability in general, its one of the top 5 tanks in the world. However, in any urban environment, any tank or armored vehicle can easily be taken out, and yes, even the mighty M1 was weak points.
