Unless your family obnoxiously takes dinner to the TV room instead of the dining room, I say leave it where it goes, not the dining room.
For 1. It distracts dinner conversations.
For 2. Its harder than **** to watch a plasma TV unless your in a moderately high chair and the plasma TV is in the middle, because if its at the top, the bottom of the screen gets harder to see, and you will need a STOOL to watch it. (this is only with plasma screen, believe it or not.)

No but it would sure cut down on some good family time at the table. Reconsider putting a TV in your dining area. Even if you don't have a family, if you were having guests over would you really want to turn on the TV during dinner? My favorite part of getting together with friends around a table, besides the food, is the great conversation and laughs.

I do not see how adding a TV could add beauty to the dining room.. what adds beauty is the type of furniture coordinated with a nice wall color and lighting

Sorry, I don't think so.
Etiquette generally dictates that if you've going to host guests to share a meal with you, that you engage them in dialogue, conversation - basically, that you spend time with THEM, rather than turning dinner into an excuse to gather around the boob tube.
Install the plasma where it belongs - in the family room or other similar venue dedicated to television viewing.
IMHO, plasma in the dining room screams, "I have no social skills, and am trying to compensate by impressing those who have no idea what fine dining is".

no, not the dining room. It needs to look nice for guests, and no TV should be on when entertaining

No.
A dining room has the purpose of drawing each other together in conversation, not staring at the screen of a "*boob tube*".
It would make it uglier in my opinion.
Don't do it.

relies upon of you opt to maintain it independent or no longer, i could recommend a mild creme/off white, or a lighter shade of wooded area eco-friendly, or a infant blue/aqua shade or a mild mustard yellow.
