Can I use the Sony supplied charger ( for NiMH cells ) for charging the same sized NiCd cells ?

My Sanyo charger has a switch setting to change when charging NiCD batteries. So there must be a difference when charging. So maybe it's not a good idea to charge NiCD batteries in your Sony supplied charger.

Note that the specs for the Sony W5 only list NiMH or Alkaline batteries as compatible with your camera.

Good Luck

I don't see why you would want to use NiCads. Do you have some left over from something? Unless your charger is specifically set up for both types of batteries,NO. READ THE MANUAL.

You can, but I wouldn't. The charge cycles and amp/hr ratings are different. The MH's have pretty much replaced the Cd's for that reason. They are also more ecology friendly and easier to trash when used up.

To add to what the above answer says, you could damage your camera if you use the wrong type of battery. It's not worth the risk.
