I'm very computer literate (no smart comments please), but I have never, repeat NEVER had system restore work. I've tried it a couple of dozen times over the years since it came out, and after sitting through all of the process, it simply says "Your compter cannot be restored to [date], no changes have been made to your computer. Has anyone had this experience?

Make sure that you are picking a date that is in bold, these are the only dates available, check that system restore is enabled and has sufficient disk space allocated to actually work, 20% of you hard drive would be ok as a max (do this in control panel, system etc) I have had no problems at all with this feature in XP. One thing to remember is if you have had a virus infection it is possible for the virus to remain in the restore files and everytime you do a restoration you reinfect the computer. The only way around this is to delete the restore files and rescam the computer (use disc cleanup to delete the restore files)

Yes, I have used System Restore for my Windows XP several times, and it has worked fine. I am sorry you have not had any luck with it. Computers are wonderful, for the most part; but have their moments of causing frustration. Have a good night!

Most of the time System Restore works just fine. A virus can complicate it and cause it to stop working, though.

No, I've managed to restore my system to a previous date. It's a nice feature in Windows XP. But I don't think it actually removed any spyware.

yup its safe and fine! You have to click on a date that you are able to restore it to. Or you can create your own restore points. ( some dates you cant use unless you create a restore point your self) Thats why you are getting the "cannot be restored to date" message cause your clicking on a date that you can't use.

Sometimes you just have to keep trying until it works if not after 10 times then it is not be reading it right for some reason. try a different point or something could have gone wrong when you made it.

it works, for this, you have to create restore points at certain intervals. if u want to restore to a previous date, u have to select the date where u have created restore point
