I already had a sore throat to begin with, so I maybe I shouldn't have tried to sing, expecially this particular song. It was Nemesis by Arch Enemy. I went through it three times, really pushing myself, and after the third time my throat was really sore, and then I spit up a little bit of blood. I just wondered if this is normal for someone who is just starting to get used to singing this kind of music, or if I just went to far and hurt myself.

Thank you for the really good advice so far. I just wanted to mention that what I'm doing isn't really singing... more like growling.

Depends if it's human or bat blood. But if your name's Ozzie, then either one's O.K.

No, it is not. I have never heard of that happening to anyone and I sing and know a lot of singers. Here's are some possibitlites: you may have just irritated your vocal chords or your throat and the blood could be coming from there. Having an ulcer can cause you to spit up blood and so can acid reflux disease. I agree with everyone else - it is time to see a a doctor! Hopefully it is nothing, but if it is something serious, it should be treated before it gets worse.
Good luck with both your health and your singing!

That isn't normal. Even if you were just doing it after a sore throat, you may have been using your voice wrong. If you use your voice wrong a lot, this could be a problem with your vocal cords. I'd say go to an ear, nose and throat doctor. It may be a just one day thing, after singing with a sore throat, but it could also be the start of a bigger problem.

Spitting up blood is never a good thing. I'd rest up, drink lots of warm tea and let your throat heal itself. When youre absolutely positive its gone you can sing again. But just like with any other muscle your throat needs to "stretch" and work its way up to such a strong piece. Try singing excises before you sing and dont push yourself too much the first time. After a while you'll feel yourself getting stronger. Remember singing should never hurt & it should feel easier than yelling so if there is any discomfort you should rest up immediately.

No, its not normal at all. Yer blood not supposed to come out of yer mouth, unless there is a scratch or wound sumwhere in yer throat, or maybe deeper in. It could be serious, so go and ask the doctor for a medical check up.

It is not normal to spit blood after singing, yet it's not dangerous at all. The same as when you cut your skin, you can hurt the inner tissue of your throat. you just have to be careful next time.

its not normal, your vocal cords couldnt have been doing well if you started bleeding after singing...even though i know the blood was from your throat.... dont push it when you're sick, youll end up hurting yourself in the end. for now, you should be drinking a lot of water and lubricate those bad boys...haha :)
