"Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) warned Republicans to either accept the Senate's version of immigration reform - which includes amnesty for illegal aliens - or risk losing Congress to Democrats in the upcoming mid-term elections."

That's odd, because I believe that to the extent people vote on immigration at all, it would lead to a Republican power base.

What do you think?

When it comes right down to it, any politician is more concerned with their job then their party. They know that supporting the senates immigration bill is political suicide. Ted Kennedy's remarks are nothing more than a desperate attempt to sway his fellow senators to vote his way. His remarks were made out of desperation.

LOL I think Kennedy's an old fat doddering idiot, and he should take his whiskey bottle and go home and build windmills.
The reason the republicans are in the majority, and currently hold many offices, is because there's a general consensus that Something Needs To Be Done, and the democrats in recent years just don't have a good track record there. Unless the dems have undergone some sort of miraculous collective policy change, and themselves found merit and virtue in ideas such as immigration enforcement, then they're going to have a bear of a time gaining office. The Senate immigration bill amounts to mass amnesty, and doesn't hold a lot of promise for the future in terms of getting a good handle on things. The dems are notoriously liberal, 'give away the store' kind of people, but the republicans
have had kind of a poor showing on some of the issues lately, too, so it's anybody's guess what's going to happen in November.
Hopefully, BOTH parties/candidates will 'see the light' on not inundating our states with people with no lawful right to be there.
Illegal immigration isn't just an american problem, either. This one's world-wide...

I agree. And I think that it will play a huge role in the upcoming elections, especially in the border states. I live in Texas, where it is a MAJOR problem. I know that people all over the country deal with it, be it fiscally or with actual illegals in their town, but here it is out of control. English speaking individuals are a minority in most public places now. Spanish signs are the more prominent, with a little English version hanging underneath.

Add in several minutes later:

Good Lord! Just look at the guy above me ^^^^!!!! That shows the attitude they have towards our country!

Same old kennedy and same old crap. Look at the good he has done for the democrats... the Republicans would be fools to listen to "drown the mistress" kennedy. The Republicans should stand for the bill the House passed and ram it down kennedys throat.

Kennedy better hope immigration is NOT the issue people are thinking about when they vote this election. It is probably the issue the dems are weakest right now.

Oh, he is right. I will personally not vote for anyone that is for the Senate's version of immigration reform. There are enough of us to vote the weenies out of their offices. Illegal is illegal. Not something to be rewarded.

Republicans have no power base any longer.

This came out of a religious rag with no sources! Why would Kennedy worry about getting elected? How long has he been in the Senate? You think someone from MA is going to elect a Republican!

I also loved this!

Tyler, a schoolteacher who was part of small counter-protest on the fringe of the crowd, opposes amnesty for illegal aliens.

"It's unfair for people who are trying to come here legally for these criminals to cut in line ahead of them," he said. "These protesters are effectively demanding that the law be bent to allow people who violated the law to cut in front of immigrants who are waiting to get here legally."

Sounds fine, except being in this country without proper documentation is NOT A CRIME, it is a CIVIL offense! Those who employ them are criminals!

I have no respect for Ted Kennedy. He is totally worthless.
You can always tell when he is lying...because his lips are moving.
