This question may sound so ignorant but has anybody experienced having generalized itching and redness with patches after drinking alcohol? I have tried to drink a little only twice before and was fine - didn't even get anywhere near drunk. But a few days ago, I tried a flavored vodka (contained only 5% alcohol) and consumed about 24 fl oz, then after some hours another 36 fl oz. The following day, my whole torso and thighs were covered by red patches and I was itching all over. (I didn't have any other food out of the usual that I eat). Would this be an allergic reaction to alcohol? I never heard of such a thing.

There is such a thing as someone being allergic to alcohol. I know a few of my friends and relatives who are allergic to alcohol and had the same red patches you had. I, personally, was getting it my first few times drinking, but the more I drank (I sound like an alcoholic now. Haha.) the less severe the patches got and eventually it disappeared altogether.

Oh, yeah. I don't think vodka goes as low as 5%. I've personally have never seen vodka lower than 40%.

I have heard of someone being allergic to alcohol. It is possible that you are allergic to something else, and it was coincidentally after you drank a lot. It can be very difficult to figure out an allergy.

When I was in high school, I suddenly got recurring hives on my hands and feet. I tried eliminating every food and beauty product, but I still got them Eventually they went away. A few years later, in college, I got hives that swept across my entire body. By process of elimination I figured out that it was something with my bed, so I got a new matress and was cured.

What I would recommend is to stop drinking for several days and see if that stops the itching. If so,then it is possible that you are allergic to alcohol. Of course, if it is really bad you should see your doctor, and maybe get some allergy medicine.

I have heard of it, but it was an allergic reaction to the grain in alcohol. But maybe what happened was the specific drink has something your allergic to? Or maybe its not an allergic reaction, its seems that if it had been an allergy to the drink you wouldnt be covered in red patches your digestive system would suffer. Maybe instead its a reaction from your liver, maybe its responding wrong or not doing its job right. Ask your doctor.

It is entirely possible. But I would rather be allergic to alcohol than milk! I can't have pizza, mac-n-cheese or ice cream! So it is not the end of the world!

But you may just be allergic to something in the specific drink you had. Try a different alcoholic bevrage. If the same thing happens. you are allergic. If not simply stay away from the new drink that you had!

The common question is "Can I be allergic to alcohol?" Although alcohol can be the culprit, it usually is not. The culprits are usually the additives used in the manufacturing process. Some of the possible culprits include:
Brewers yeast
Corn
Eggs
Grapes
Molds
Sulfites
Pesticides

allergy is an hypersensitive immune reaction to any distant places agent. it could take place to each individual to something at any component to life. whether you're actually not allergic to a minimum of something right this moment doesnt recommend which you nevertheless wont be the next day. Champagne or alcohol hypersensitive reactions are actually not very uncommon so which you have an allergy to som of its components

I've heard of an allergy to beer, but not alcohol. I guess anything is possible. Those weird flavor drinks may be delicious but they contain some odd ingrediants. It was probably just a random reaction to it. to be safe i'd stay away from that drink from now on. You never know when the reaction can get serious.
Best of Luck

Yes, I did. One of my cousins have this problem. She just cannot drink any kind of alcohol. Not even 5%. She will have rashes and redness right away. Then a few days later her skin starts to peel off. Just like a snake having its skin coming out. I saw this before. She has to put a lot of lotion and wear long sleeves shirt to cover up.

If by allergy you mean a physical readtion to the intake of alcohol, I have one. It seems that I have an allergy, every time I drink, I break out in handcuffs. So, I don't drink anymore!!

Seriously though, it may be an additive, instead of the alcohol. Just a thought. Perhaps switch brands, then, if it continues, regardless of the brand, perhaps stop drinking. Good luck!

Yes, it's true. It seems to effect asians and pale caucasions more than others but anyone can have a reaction. When I drink my face breaks out in really deep infected pimples and swells up red. Others I know can have difficulty breathing or swollen esophagous.

Know this now and learn to stay away from the stuff or know your limit before a reaction.
