...people are there any names that translate. For example, Maria/Mary...Spanish and English. Are there any Asian, Spanish, French, Italian, or any others that have different conjugations/translations? If so, can you name some with their english-speaking equivalent? (I don't really know if Mary is an english name or not, I just guessed.)

multilingual names! there are so many name used most came from the bible, bible was ancient books, so many translation been made, such as mary it came from the bible(the sounds or on how you pronounce it ) maria in spanish and in pilipinos its maria also. joseph came from the bible also, in pilipino its jose so with the spanish words.theres a lot more, like judas, in some languages its hudas (asian called)bartolomew, some it says bartolome, but better to use or buy dictionary-dicationary tranlated a lot or words...like english-spanish dictionary, bahasa-english dictionary, french-english dictionary, arabic-english dictionary, pilipino-english dictionary, these are one of the few translations, if you really interested in learning the so called multilingual translation. but it took you years to learn some of these., and the the best is to research on the internet to avoid confusion, and most, if you want, talked with different nationality and it will enhance and widen your knowledge. by talking with different nationality you will learn more by asking them. good luck

I think it's very rude to call somebody by their translated name.
If you are an Irish Sean you don't want to be called John, a Spanish Maria would probably not like being Mary, etc.
Our name is the single most important sound in the world for most of us, and we should pay attention to the way other people introduce themselves. That would be the form of their name they like being used by us, too.

James is Jacques in French and Jakob in German (Jacob is the same name but it's not as natively-English as James).
John is Jean in French, Hans in German, Giovanni in Italian, Sean in Irish and Ian in Scottish.
Peter is Pierre in French, Pietro in Italian, Pedro in Spanish (and/or Portuguese?) (Peter in German)

Why do people insist on translating names? If my name is Bob, I'm still Bob wherever I go. People don't translate last names, so why translate first names. most last names have more meaning than first names anyway.
