I have always been curious about this. If I was to purchase two pups from the same litter would they get along later in life? I am assuming they would since they are related.

Depending on the breed, they normally do well together...Many Terriers and Bully breeds prefer to be the only family pet..

If they are spayed/neutered by 6-7 months, there is no difference whether they should be same sex or not..

Hi,

All dogs tend to get along if brought up together. However there has to be a dominant pack leader. If this is disputed by the dogs they may fight each other. I would always suggest a male/female partnership is best. If you want a male/male or female/female partnership get one neutered or spayed this will give the dominant dog more of a dominant stance.
I would not breed dogs from the same litter though. I think this would be terrible for pedigree etc. Hope this helps.

I own a female German shepherd, and my sister owns a male from the same litter. For awhile, she had both dogs, and there was a dominance issue. Sam tried to shove Jamie away from the food and water on a regular basis until she had enough and chased HIM away.

I don't know if dominance is a common problem among littermates, but it was only a minor issue with those two, anyway. No bloodshed, but it was funny to watch little Jamie get madder and madder until she couldn't stand it any more.

Then you'd see a big black and silver streak (Sam) running for his life, about two inches ahead of the little black and tan streak with the big teeth!

as long as the pups are getting along now while they are little there is no reason they wouldn't continue to get along. most won't have a problem. there are instances where this isn't the case, we have a dog who we bought from our breeder because she beat up on her sister too much, she was constantly after her and fighting with her (but ours is a bit of a headcase :-P). but in most cases, unless one of the two is really aggressive, there won't be any problem at all.

it depends on the pups' temprements. just like humans dogs have personalities. some are dominant some are submissive some skittish some are outgoing.

you'd want to look for two submissive puppies or one dominant one submissive.

you'd also need a breed that doesn't mind other dogs in the house.

"relation" has nothing to do with getting along with one another . hell, I don't get along with half of my relatives. but we fight with words. dogs fight with with teeth.

oh yeah they would!

although in general, a male and female would still get along better than a pair of same-sex puppies.

my jack russel terrior gave birth to three little puppies jan6, we were in love with those little guys. all males! we named them and KEPT THEM! we just couldnt part with them. i didnt know that it wasnt normal to do that. i got looks and gasps about our choice, but i identified with the mamma cause i'm a single mom of four lol anyway they live in the back yard with their mother. they are now 9 mos. old and yes they fight a bit, one of them likes to hourd the food, but we just go outside, seperate them during a squabble and make the "greedy eater" eat outside the kennel. we spoil them with tons of water, shade, and a kennel with a wicker sofa in it! and at 8pm every night we bring them inside to the air condition to sleep in their pet carriers. the mamma in her own, the largest of the litter in his own, and the two that look like chiquaquas (msp) "bunk" together in a larger size crate. it's a chore taking care of them, but they are apart of our family and we dont think anyone else could have loved them the way we do. they are a PACK, and that's what packs of dogs do, live together. ( i also have four cats that live indoors...don't get me started on them)
