Make black tea liquor (say about one cup) and strain it into a bowl. In the same bowl, put into that liquor tea, two tablespoons each of henna powder, amla seed powder and areetha nut powder ( you get these in powder form in sealed packets in most grocery / provision stores in India) and make a paste. Squeeze in some lime juice and mix well.
Apply this on your scalp and hair and leave to dry for about half an hour, then wash off. Its the best natural hair conditioner ever and leaves your hair soft and lustrous.

I'm pretty surprised no one else has mentioned this but jojoba oil is a great natural and inexpensive conditioner. You can buy it at health food stores and after showering just rub about a dime sized amount into your hair (this can be adjusted depending on your hair type but this stuff is strong-start with a dime sized amount). This makes your hair shiny and soft and controls frizz for a bonus. Good luck!

Mix honey with Olive Oil. Heat in microwave oven to melt and apply to hair then cover head with a very warm towel for half an hour while taking a warm soothing bath then shampoo off.

Look for organic hair care... it seems more expensive but you will use less. Also consider coconut oil... you grease your hair up with it, wait 20 minutes, and shampoo and condition like normal.
I use Nature's Gate Organics in Lavender & Aloe (I have fine hair) and my boyfriend uses Chamomile & Lemon Verben (For dry hair) and it is great.
Silicone and sulfates kill your hair. Avoid at all costs.
