Is the adjuster frozen up? I think those JA body cars has fully automatic adjusters, a long arm between the shoes that adjusts whenever the brakes are applied. They are different that the old rotary style adjusters that only worked in reverse and had to be adjust manually after a brake job. If that adjuster didnt do it's job, then the cylinder would have nothing to push against and would pop one or both of the pistons out. If that adjuster is okay, and the shoes are not worn down to nothing, check the new drums. Are they the right size? even if they are a 1/2" too big it is enough room for the wheel cylinder to pop... I hope you still have the old drums to check against, they should be exactly the same size...

sounds like the brake cylinder actuator arm was not properly seated against the brake shoe, when you stepped on the peddle, the pressure blew out the cylinder, or it is possible the manufacturer put a piston cup in backwards

had to be a bad rubber on it. its not like the braking system can develop pressure that keeps going higher and out of control.

you have to adjust the brake shoes with the little springy things so they are not to loose or too tight if they have too much pressure boom cylinder is gone

you have to thread the selfadjusters back in and readjust the brake shoes.

Everything may have been tightened too much or not properly installed. I mean if you did it yourself and you don't seem to confident here, you may just need to let the professionals handle it.
