but ask something that requires one to question their religious assumptions, and the only ones answering with thoughtful responses are agnostics or atheists?

I got x2 the responses to the obvious "retarded" question than I have for questions relating to the relationship of science to religion, or whether mankind takes an arrogant self-appointed role over other animals.

It's sad that so many people here are ready to jump on easy questions....

but so afraid of the hard ones.

In case you haven't caught on yet, the "retarded" question was a test.

It's not that people aren't out there or not reading the questions....

it's that people are afraid of addressing real issues.

Now, see, this question is TOO DAMN LONG. It's hard enough for me to figure out all those little words, but then you throw in "arrogant" and "assumptions". I CAN'T THINK THAT HARD!!!

Have you ever stepped into the Polls&Surveys section? Ask people what their favorite food is and you'll get 100+ responses in under 5mins.

Ask people tough questions about challenging their beliefs and they'll go off looking for a question about their favorite food.

Personally, I skip over some questions because I don't think I have enough info on a subject to form an educated opinion on it. On the plus side, going looking for info to answer a question has led me to read some things that maybe I wouldn't have otherwise.

I enjoy questioning my beliefs so that would never bug me. I don't think a spiritual path is worth staying on if your not willing to challenge it constantly. I like science even though I'm terrible at it, so sometimes I find it better to keep my mouth shut and just take in what others think. Hopefully they throw out some links to sites I can read and learn on.

What am I, non thoughtful chopped liver?

I'm not afraid. What is the question you wish to have addressed by a Christian? Ask, and I shall answer to the best of my ability.

Do know, however, that you are operating under the illusion of scale. You think because you get a higher number of responses for easy questions that the answers you got for the more difficult ones were worthless.

Plus, you're the scientist. Why not look at other potential factors regarding your little experiment? Like maybe people had to go to the bathroom when you asked your other questions. Not everything is what it appears to be. Just because you want it to look a certain way...well, you're familiar with the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. You tell me.

Sounds basically like how I scored my first boyfriend. i could say get a mutual buddy to ask if she likes you, or basically be brave and do it your self. determine she would manage to tell which you're no longer joking, or she'll probable deny it. I doubt that it will ruin your friendship. If she does not such as you, she'll probable nevertheless be fantastically flattered to be certain which you like her. do basically no longer circulate overboard with the confession, or she might get creeped out. stable luck! :) wish you get her.

I didn't see your Q. on the arrogant self-appointed role over other animals. I suppose I do take an arrogant self-appoited stance. I certainly wouldn't want a rat bossing me around and telling me what to do.

People are afraid they might actually have to use their brain for something. They're afraid to commit to an answer on a "heavier" question that has more relevance in life.

You're right. They just don't want to address the real issues.

I would say that it is probably because if you are going to answer a "hard" question, you are going to have to open yourself up a little bit. It really isn't all that appealing to open yourself up to someone who just wants to discredit what you hold dear.

Either that or I am just lazy and am just killing time here.

I am spiritual and I answered you question, could it be that a thought provoking question requires time to provide a thoughtful response.

Patience is a virtue............not out of belief but because of real world wisdom.

I generally don't answer 'serious' religious questions (meaning one that requires extensive thought/writing) because it's an intensely personal thing for me and I am tired of ignorant emails telling me that my beliefs are wrong/messed up/evil/stupid. That's just me though.

Picture a classroom setting:

Teacher: Can any one explain to me the theory of evolution?

Dead silence. no hands in the air.

Teacher: OK, then, what's 2+2?

Class: (every hand in the air) Me, me I know this one! pick me!
