Just realize that it isn't a quick fix or miracle solution. There are quite a few complications that can arise from this procedure. I have had two friends get this, and one friend who had her stomach stapled. The one who had her stomach stapled is in the hospital every two or so weeks because she is literally starving to death. The other two have had complications as well. One spits back up half of what she eats, even though she eats only bites at a meal. The other one had a lung colapse after the surgery. Basically, just remember that this is a major surgery, not just a routine procedure. And there will be major adjustments needed afterwards, not just in the eating department either. There are emotional adjustments as well. People will gush over how good you look, how much better. It will make you feel like everyone thought you looked terrible before. Also, after you lose the weight, you will have excess skin that will have to be removed. And, not all insurance companies will cover the lap-band and basically none will cover the skin removal. Try and do it naturally, because you will have to change your habits anyway afterwards or you will gain it all back.

Add in an hour or so later:

Good grief, whatever you do, do NOT listen to the post about India. That would be completely asinine to go another country for "cheap" surgery. And it is not any safer now than it was before.

Be sure you ask a LOT of questions. It isn't as straightforward as it seems. For one, you must be 'morbidly' obese. You likely will be unable to eat more than a tiny bit of food at a time. Also remember, losing all that weight so fast may leave you with a lot of excess skin. There will be need to exercise to rebuild muscles you have not been using all that much. Et Cetera. Only you can decide if you need it and if it is worth it. Best wishes.

i was watching Celebrity Fit Club 4 the other night ... Carnie Wilson is on there and she had the gastric-bypass surgery a few years ago. There is also a rapper on the show named BoneCrusher .. who has lost almost 40 lbs in about 60 days.

Dr. Ian ... who is the consulting doctor said (and i believe this) that a very very small percentage of overweight (obese) people need that kind of medical intervention.

if you diet and exercise YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT. it's impossible not to. it's a matter of your own will power and desire to lose it.

the surgery is a very serious procedure and unless a person has other severe medical conditions like congestive heart failure and diabetes .. the safest bet is to eat small portions 6 times a day and exercise at least 30 minutes every day. if you do this .. you will lose weight.

best of luck to you .... and take care of yourself.

I wouldn't. No matter how much anyone weighs, you can always diet and exercise. Even though I didn't really need to lose any weight over the summer, I just watched my weight and went to the gym once in a while and lost 6 pounds in 2 months.

If you apply yourself, you can easily lose weight without wasting money on a lap band

Hey,

My boss had this done 3 or 4 months ago, he had to have this done to loose weight fast as he was having health problems due to his weight.
He found it difficult with eating plans etc etc, but he has lost a huge amount of weight and is feeling much better than when he was heavy. He did alot of research into this procedure and I recommend you do the same to find out if this is your solution.

I have a friend who was one of the first to have it done in Australia, at first she coped then it became increasingly difficult for her to eat the tiny portions that the lap-band lets through, so please! before you have it done get some counselling on the subject first, as obesity is a mind problem, so make sure you want to make that commitment. Good luck, what ever you decide to do!

Lap band/Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling (all types of bariatric surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her surgery for Lap band in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps
