Fat free means some modifications has been done to a certain substance to remove its fat contents whereas non-fat means a certain substance basically do not contain any fat and no any fat substance has been added.
Anyway,whatever is the difference both end up the same not to contain fat.

Sounds like nothing more than marketing gobbledygook to me. Your best bet is to (learn to) read the Nutrition Facts box required on all packaged food in the US. Don't just read the Total Fat, Calories From Fat or Trans Fat sections. Look at the ingredients list also and see if you spot anything suspicious. That way, you will really know how much fat is in the product you are thinking of buying.

I don't think there is a real difference, although this is what I came up with.
Non-fat is when the fat has been removed vs. fat free never had fat?
Just a hunch.

fat free means that they didnt add any fat to the orginal product and non-fat means that it was originally not fat

low fat must not contain more than 3 grams of fat per serving;
fat free it must contain less than 0.5 grams of fat per serving.
There was no definition for non-fat.
