CactusFlower, take your idiotic collection agent answers and go away!

It is NOT considered fraud to dispute any entry on your credit report. You will NOT get into trouble by doing it. You are ALLOWED to dispute any entry on your credit reports. The FCRA laws have placed wording into it for repeated disputes, and allows the credit bureaus to ignore multiple disputes as "frivious".

Colletion Agent Boloney!

To answer your question, each of the credit reporting agencies must be contacted, and you must dispute each entry with them. Rarely do all three cooperate in reporting or repairing your credit reports.

The only items that will update will be the ones that updated, such as "verified" or "customer disputes this account." The ones that Experian deletes will have to be disputed with the TransUnion and Equifax also.

On the downside, if there was an account that was not previously listed on one of the other credit reporting agencies, when the creditor contacts all three with the update, it will then be listed with the others. But, don't forget, you can still force the creditor to verify the information that they are listing with the CRA's and many times, they can't validate the info (even though the CRA says they have).

First get your credit reports from all 3 credit bureaus then you will have to contact all 3 credit bureaus and tell them you want to dispute items on your credit report, make sure your name, address, ss#, addresses are all correct also. If not dispute those also because that can cause you not to get credit. After your done talking to each one they will investigate the disputes and send you their findings and update the items if their found to be wrong. Also make sure the balances are correct. I just checked all three of mine and found my name misspelled, addresses wrong of places I didn't even live at, accounts that didn't even belong to me (found gf stole my ss# and used it to open accounts), balances that were wrong, even inquiries that I didn't authorize, I had accounts that showed was still open that should of been closed, account that I had paid off and they still showed a balance and still open, accounts that had been closed for more than 7 years that should of been taken off my credit report(s) only dispute the bad credit not the good because good credit isn't hurting you and the bad is. All the things I mentioned are things to look for. I also tried to get an online credit reports but found that there was a big difference in the reports I received online to the ones I received in the mail directly from the credit bureaus so get the ones from the credit bureaus and use those for your disputes. The whole process will take about two to three months to finally get your reports all corrected. when you receive your new updated reports check those to make sure the disputes have been corrected and to make sure you didn't miss anything.

You have to make sure that you contact each one of them separately. All 3 bureaus can have different information. It is better if you get a free credit report from all 3 bureaus once a year. That will help you keep better track of anything that is wrong. Once any problems are fixed it can take up to 30 days or more for it to actually show on your report. If you find that there are things that should not be on there, you will have to put a fraud hold on your credit. That will protect anyone from obtaining credit in your name without contacting you first at numbers that you supplied. Then and only then can credit be ran or obtained. It can be a hassle at first, but I saw first hand how many people out there have credit issues because of not having a fraud alert on your SSN.

Readers ask? I have disputed some credit items thru experion. Will all major credit beaus update?

SUPERBOOKS ANSWERS:

I believe that you must write to ALL the credit places since they are all separate. Write to TRW and EXPERION and all credit places.

Get a good credit book from the library and that will have a list of all of them and their addresses and telephone numbers.

Be specific in your letter mentioning the items and mentioning the dates and account numbers.

It might help to include, in your letter, a short note saying that if the proper information and adjustments do not appear on your credit report within (a certain period of time, i.e. one month) that you willl consider your options of sueing them for giving out false information on your credit report.

That should bring it to their attention quite quickly and should be getting you quick results.

Send all your proof, and your receipts or any proof that you have and tell them what you want written in your report as a retraction of their wrong information in the first place.

Be polite, persistent and professional and exact, and you'll get what you want.

Definitely contact all of them. Experian sometimes has things that the others have and don't have, but it's best to just check. Doing a dispute is a free way to get your credit report too.

No ony experian will update. You will need to dispute thru all of the 3 credit bureaus, transunion and equifax as well. Also remember all credit bureaus may not have the same info.

No.. you must contact each one separately. You might be amazed to know that your credit reports will be different between all 3 Bureaus and you will probably even have 3 different scores.

Just some friendly advice, make sure you are truly only disputing items that are not yours.. otherwise it's considered FRAUD and can get you into trouble.
I realize there are people out there encouraging folks to dispute "everything" on their credit reports, but this is not cool and will come back to bite you.
