They say you shouldn't put your home address on them as then the bad guys know you aren't home and can go in and help themselves to all your belongings! If you have a work address that is better.

Obviously, you need identifiying information. Most experts say to use an initial for your first name and use the address and phone number of your workplace. That way, a lost bag can be identified but your exact home address is not given to strangers.

Put your name, address, phone number. That way if you lose your luggage they have a way to contact you. I have always put my address on the tags, nothings happened yet...

I always put my work address myself. But it is important to have it property marked, actually some sticker or something to make it stand out really helps if the tag is lost and the bag goes to that big room filled with bags, and you are asking them to id it.

But on the inside of the bag you need to have full contact info if you ever want to see your bag if it is lost.

Laminated business cards work for me because they have my mobile phone number in addition to office number. To me, it makes no sense to put my home info on my luggage if I'm not home.
On the inside of luggage, I put additional info like itinerary as well as phone numbers so my luggage can catch up to me if need be.

If you're going to be at your destination for a while, it's good to put that address (so if your bag is delayed, it won't get sent back to your house).

Put all your contact info, plus your itinerary, inside the bag.
