I've recently taken up running around a park in my neighborhood. I'm not certain of the length of the run, but i've decided to take a pedometer with a... less than accurate measuring device on it. I figured that would at least give me some kind of an estimate as to how long i'm running.

However, i'm curious to know how long I *should* be running for? I don't think I need to run myself into the ground... so I thought i'd get some advice...

I love to run; walking just doesn't do it for me. Don't worry about how long you "should" run, that makes it a chore. Run as long as you feel good, and not until you're so tired you can't exercise good form. If you want to go longer, stop and walk or slow down for a minute or two until you feel energized again. Just enjoy yourself; your distance will increase with time if you want it to.

Don't start out running too far or too often; if you get shin splints it'll ruin it for you. Start with a couple of miles if that feels comfortable. Have fun. :)

The miles don't really matter - only how long you're out there running. The average time for excerise is 35-45 minutes.

None, jogging does serious damage to your knees.
Fast walking has the same effect without the stress factor.

32 if you wish to live beyond 50. But better yet why jog when you have a car?
