My daughter will turn 5 this December, we have to wait until next year for her start. It can vary even from one school district to another. In our district any child who is 5 by Sept 1st will automatically be accepted to the school, any child who is 5 by Oct 1st will be able to be tested and admitted to kindergarten based on the testing. Academically she seems to be ready, but I have wondered if her maturity is quite where it should be to really get the most out of a classroom setting. So in the end I am kind of glad we have to wait for another year.

Each district has certain rules. In CA--it used to be that they had to be 5 by Sept. 1st , now it is pushed back to December. You need to call your local district and ask them the age requirements. If the district has a Dec. cut off date, she may be able to start school in Sept. You will not have to wait for her birthday for her to start school IF the school district has a late cut off date.
Also, consider whether or not she is ready to start school at 4 years old. Has she been in preschool or somewhere where she has learned to socialize with other children? Age is only a number and a guideline when deciding on whether or not a child is ready to start school. There is nothing wrong with waiting another year and having her be older to start kindergarten. It just depends.

It depends on when the school district cut off date is. Where I went to school it was december 1st. I started pre-school when I was 3 and kindergarten when I was 4. Most important is to decide if your daughter is mature enough. When I was 4 I was in class with 5 and 6 year olds because some were not mature enough to start the year before.

Here they start jr kindergarten at 3/4.
It goes by Christmas, so long as they turn 4 before January 1st, they can register in September. If they turn 4 after January 1st, they need to register during the start of the next school year.
Call your local school board, or an actual elementary school.
At five, I'd be worried that she's late to start. But maybe you're in another country..

My daughter will be six in Dec and just started kindergarten. I am glad she is one of the older kids. She has that much more control over herself and maturity. Over the summer I could see she was ready for school and was excited when school started. No, kids don't start Kindergarten in the middle of the year, you wait until September.

It depends on the school district where you live. In my area they have to be 5 by September something to start kindergarten and by law if they are not 5 then they can't start.

She will have to wait and start the following school year, I know it stinks, but, that is the way the chool systems are.......... I have one that has a birthday in January, she is only 7 months old, but, when she is ready for school she will be a late starter also....... where my boys they will turn in March and June, so they will start right on time...........

contact your local school district. age cutoffs vary from state to state. my state is age 5 by oct. 15th. just depends...
generally speaking, there is nothing terrible about having your child be one of the older ones in her class.
good luck.
