Very good question. You have some very good points. I'll be big enough to admit that I have been guilty at times of the exact same things that you are talking about. There are times when I tend to get over enthusiastic and preachy. I'll try not to get too long winded here. LOL. I do happen to think I'm right and that my beliefs are the best ones for everybody. Don't we all? But my favorite phrase is "We fought England for it." This country is supposed to be about freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc. Just because I think I'm right, doesn't guarantee that I am. I'm not trying to offend anyone with my next comment. I'm only basing my answer on Christianity because that happens to be the religion that I've chosen. We all want to preach that we know best. My way or no way. But if we look at what the Bible actually says, God created man with free will. He knows the right way better than any of us ever will, but He gave us the choice to make up our own minds. Yes He does offer guidance, but He left it up to us to find our own path to righteousness or the right not to if we so choose. If God doesn't force an individual to choose Him or His way then what gives any one person the right to try to force someone to do what they say. Whether it's God & Jesus, Bhudda, Allah or who or what ever in this day and age if an individual finds a way or spiritual path to go through life being a better person and better part of society than they were before instead of judging them we should be supporting them and thankful for the fact that they have found their way and their voice. Like I said this is just my opinion. I'm truly sorry if I've stepped on anyone's toes.

For some people, it is pride. They have nothing else to base their happiness on, except for the ability to intimidate and anger others. Eleanor Roosevelt said "No one can ever make you feel inferior without your permission." So, if you encounter these folks who are hateful or just plain lacking in love, ignore them. However, some people ask questions on here or voice opinions or conclusions as fact when fact has already been established. When people make assertions about a faith, or a Holy Book, or even a certain deity that isn't true, there is no other choice but to provide correction in the matter so as to get rid of falsehood. That is the only way to preserve dignity of the subject; defense of its truth. For many people, this is hard to come to terms with, especially if they hold an incorrect thought dear, or are prideful themselves. And it is hard to keep an objective view when you are the subject of correction. Note, I'm not talking about individual's choices in life, I am simply speaking of the representation and misrepresentation of religion. If a person insists on saying their life is based on a belief system, when that belief system inherently does not support a lifestyle, then that person is not really basing their life upon, that, and is simply making a choice in life independant of that, but probably based on something else. I myself seek the truth in all things and I have corrected those who have said untrue things about the Bible, the Christian God, and Christianity. But, as a Christian, my obligation is no less than this.

Our God wants a relationship with you can you handle that
Here's the real issue:
Those that love darkness and practice evil do not like the light, and we Christians are the children of light. (I Thessalonians 5:5)
We are salt and light. (Matthew 5:13-16)
"He that believes on Him (Jesus Christ) is not damned: but he that does not believe is damned already, because he has not believed in the identity of the only begotten Son of God (Jesus Christ).
And this is their damnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness instead of the light, because their works are evil. Because every one that does evil hates the light, neither do they come to the light, because they don't want to be rebuked for their evil. But he that does the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be revealed, that they are accomplished in God." (John 3:20&21)
That's why many people don't like us.
"Do not be amazed brothers if the world hates you." (I John 3:13)
"If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love his own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
But all these things they will do to you because you bear my name, because they do not know Him that sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
He that hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no other man did, they would have no sin: but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. But this comes to pass, so that the word might be fulfilled that is written in the law, 'They hated me without a reason.'" (John 15:18-25)
"He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And behold, I (Jesus Christ) come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give to every man according as his work shall be. I AM Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last." (Revelation 22:11-13)

There are a lot of religious gas bags out there. Most can't program a VCR. Nevertheless, these fanatics will tell you they know the secrets of the universe. They will tell you what God thinks about fetuses, or the right to own a handgun. Heck, these cristian crackers even have trouble paying their space rental at the trailer park.

We all know that being prejudiced is not a good trait to have. Do we even know which is the correct one? In my opinion, if you feel comfortable with your current religion, keep to its tenets. If you don't feel comfy, by all means, change. Your free will is given for free, exercise it to the fullest.
I agree with you fully. Your own standard is enough. Keep to the basic tenets, and be at peace. I have friends who are of not the same religion and yet we converse about our religions because we found so many common grounds that we have not known before. He could accept my views of religion, and I his.
If only the rest of us are like this.

What do you expect? Answers to other people's questions that don't pertain to the question being asked? Seems to me you are the main self righteous person here.
Not all Christians believe the same, nor do all Muslims believe the same..., and this goes for Buddhists or any other religion. Hence you are going to get sometimes many different answers and each one will answer according to his or her convictions and beliefs.
I would venture to say even atheists disagree on certain topics. Grow up.

1. everyone is welcome to say their opinions no matter what the issue is.
2. you're right. everyone has this notion of correcting someone. if not, it'll be authocratic rule.
3. no one judges the other. no one has the right. this notion is what you interpreted, not necessarily all of us did see it that way.
4. why set a standard? so long as you respect his ideals, and respect his views, not necessarily following his reasons but observing his point, what's wrong with that?
5. to point out to the other how you should love one's god is up to you. your choice... are you saying you'll blindly follow another just to please them? CERTAINLY NOT...
6. been honest with my answers here, did my best to respond to a query as ethical as i could... it's how others perceive how i approach their query. but i respected their choice too...

When it comes to religion, many people feel that because their personal beliefs are correct for them those beliefs must be correct for everyone.
Many people also react badly when confronted with something that challenges their person view of the universe. If they are happy and follow Religion X, then how could anyone who follows Religion X be unhappy or someone who follows Religion Y be happy?
I feel sorry for people who are so sure of things that they will never be able to prove to others but feel compelled to try to do so anyway. I am happy with my religious path, but I don't think it is correct for anyone but me, so I don't try to convince others that it is real or a good belief for them.

people come on here to ask legitimate questions (some of them anyhow) and like you, i have noticed the religious based questions seem to solicite the kind of responses you mentionned.it makes me nuts too because none of these people were put on this earth to judge others...so i agree with you

some people are honestly just trying to help, giving answers from their very soul.
I am neither self appointed, righteous or near perfect so my answers probably just plain suck. But I try!
God bless
