Is there any hope for the souls of loved ones who have passed away without being "saved"? Can they be helped by our prayers?
Is it ok to ask God to have mercy on them?

No, I don't believe it would do any good, but then again since there is so much division on issues like this around the world, I guess the worst that God could say in response to someone's prayers to a dead one is, No ! I do believe we should be praying for the souls of the living and not the dead !

The deads fate is sealed. When one dies they just go back to the dust. The only thing that is taken away is there spirit which is the breath that they breath. If they did not know the lord at all they will be judged accordingly. If they knew the lord but did not teach the way of the lord or claimed to know the lord and did not teach or do then we have a problem. If they died in Christ they will be rasied in the first resurection and reign with the Lord, if not the second resurection they will rise and than the second death or the Kingdom.

It is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment. Heb 9:27. What is to die? Jesus said of those He raised from dead while on earth, they "sleep" because their spirits had not left their bodies. After all what dies but the body and what is death but the separation of the spirit from the body.

'If they” [the dead] “do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.' (Luke 16:31) "Jesus said, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father, but by me.'" Jesus' work is done. ("It is finished" Jn 19:30) We just have to receive it, while we are alive. John 1:12

As for praying for God’s mercy, He showed all His mercy while they were alive and they rejected it.

Being a Christian you have the Ear of God. That means that He hears you all the time. You can ask Him whatever you would like but I think you already know the answer to your question.

We all want our loved one to be in Heaven. We want to see them as we walk through the Gate Jesus Christ to be forever in the presence of God.

We are here for one reason. That's to be tested whether we will accept Jesus Christ as Saviour or not. We have no other choice to make. We either accept Jesus Christ or we end up in the Lake of Fire.

I know this is probably not what you have been taught, but your answer is in the Word of God and there for you to read for yourself.

There is a final judgment coming. God judges and does what is right. Leave the decision up to Him.><>

Let me tell you that Bible doesn't tell us to pray for the dead one. The Bible always consider the dead persons as someone who is sleeping who does not know anything. I will quote you only one Bible reference

Ecclesiastes 9:5 - "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been"

So you see the dead person know nothing it's as if they are in a deep sleep, and they are waiting to the resurrection promised by God.

Salvation is something that Jesus Christ has purchased in full for every person. He paid the price on the cross, once for all. It is the individual's responsibility to either accept that free gift or not. The Bible clearly states that God will judge every person according to their works in this life. You can pray for someone every day your whole life long to be saved, but ultimately it is still their own decision to make.

Sorry, the bible teaches, first death, then the judgement. I know some religions teach that you can pray for unsaved people after they die but there is no real biblical evidence to back that up. Jesus talks about the rich man and lazarus. When the rich man who was not a Christian died, he was taken directly to hell and Jesus said there was no way he could cross back over. The rich man asked Abraham to please go and tell his still living brothers so that they would not go there. While you are living, that is the time to make your decision.

My understanding of life after death has a pretty set standard of rules. You are judge by your deeds in life, upon your death, judgement is then casted. Heaven, hell, or limbo. And when you go to limbo, that is your waiting room for final judgement...I think God and Satan play poker for those souls....so, no. Pray will not help the dead.

There is no life for the sinner. It is easier for a Camel to enter through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. Rich man does not exactly men wealth as in money and possessions.

No, the reverse is true.

We pray to the dead to ask them for their help. I am talking about our ancestors only.

The westerners are the only people who don't worship their ancestors. They help us. Set up an altar. Give them a candle, water, liquor or whatever you feel now and then. Ask them for help and guidance and they will help.

You have a Christian perspective. Pray for the living, they need your help, not the dead. They are ok.
