Before you do anything, please have the dog completely checked out by a vet - once anything medical has been ruled out then you can proceed with hiring an animal behaviorist - you need someone with more training then just a dog trainer, you need an animal behaviorist that specializes in behavior modification techniques and one that uses positive re-inforcement techniques - no punishment other then Time Out - All Positive - Rewarding positive behavior and ignoring bad behavior unless bad behavior is dangerous to someone or the dog - that is the type of behaviorist you need to help you modify your dogs attitude.
You are in need of the services of an animal behaviorist - You need to implement a program called "Nothing In Life Is Free" with your dog. You need to put a leash on your dog and keep it there at all times, except when he is sleeping and if this dog is crate trained, he should be sleeping in his crate with the door securely shut.
From now on everything the dog gets or does, he must ask for without exception. When it is meal time request that the dog sit and wait for his food bowl to be placed on the floor - he must stay seated until you tell him that it is OK for him to come and eat his meal now - if he moves toward the bowl before you have released him, pick the bowl back up and start all over again - have someone help you with this exercise if you feel you need help.
Also the dog is no longer allowed on furniture unless he is invited by someone - if he jumps up on his own, using the leash and the down command, gently give the leash a tug and instruct the dog to get down - if he refuses, repeat the tug and the command, if he still refuses and maybe growls, tug hard enough to get him off the couch and in a lounder voice say "DOWN NOW" -
Anytime you are going out of the house or into the house, have the dog wait and sit so that the people enter and leave the house first - you need to teach him that he is a second class citizen and that all the people are first class citizens.
Take him to a basic obedience class and review the basic commands so you can practice them two to four times per day - no more then 15 minutes per session - (sit, down, come, stay, drop it, kiss, leave it, bed, crate-up, out, eat, potty, car, cookie, treat, dance, wave, give-paw, sit-up, roll-over and any others you can think of but this is a fairly good list to get you started.)
You need to let the dog understand that all people are the "ALPHA" and that all dogs are "BETA" - you can be in control without being mean, this is all about control - once the dog accept that the people are in control, they can start to relax and concentrate on being just a happy friendly dog.
Now even in the yard for a while, keep the dog on a leash and do not allow him to chase anyone ever - you can purchase an inexpensive 20 or 30 foot cotton training leash for under 10 dollars, you can use this long leash to allow him some freedom to run around but as soon as he starts to chase a person, you say NO ans quickly start to pull the leash back to you to get the dog next to you, where you will make him sit near you quietly.
You should also have a small bath mat or a small rug where you can tie the dog up and this area should be in a spot where the dog cannot see you - the only punishment you are going to use with this dog is a Time Out and during these 10 to 15 minute time outs, the dog will not be able to see anyone and no toys - the dog is to sit alone and see no one and has nothing to do but to think about why he is sitting here alone.
Give this a try and within 48 hours you should start to see some positive changes - Good Luck

You need to be more firm with him. He thinks he is boss dog. You let him get away with his bad behavior, and it has gotten worse.
I recommend obedience training. They will teach you how to train the dog so he learns you are the boss and you don't get hurt.
EDIT
Consider seeing a vet. Could be a brain tumor or an infection that changes his personality.

We had two little dogs and this happened to one and the vet did a ct of the head and found a little tumor. He may have something in his diet that is toxic. Take him to the vet!

You are probably babying him to much so he thinks that he runs the house. Make sure he is fixed and usually getting trainin lessons helps.

He's had all his shots, but has he been checked for other illnesses or something like hip dysplasia (sp?) or arthritis? How much obedience training have you done with him?

Have the vet check him. If he has turned vicious, he may have to be put down. He could hurt a child and you would be responsible.

Have you had his hearing and eye sight tested. Maybe he is a bit hard of hearing, or his eye sight is going so he snaps out at anyone.
