Meditation is a process of clearing the mind of distractions, and connecting -- either to deep within you or to the divine around you.
Different traditions teach various meditation techniques, but the most common involve relaxation, focusing on the breath, and letting your mind clear through practice.
Once you have reached a point where you can clear your mind, you can get past the distractions and open yourself to inspiration -- whether that inspiration comes from within your or from some higher source entirely depends on your focus and your beliefs.

Meditate on Jesus, ask Him to give you a Holy Spirit inspired mind. Ask Him to open the eyes of your understanding. If you want to be creative, ask the creator.

I get inspired by other's art....My last screenplay was written after I watched Along Came Poly...I heard Stevie Nicks interviewed one time and one of Fleetwood Mac's famous songs came to them immediately after they heard Prince's Little Red Corvet...
Find a way to summon your muse. You have to keep searching for a way that is right for you.

Find yourself a place where you can be totally alone. It works best if you can block out the outside world entirely.
Then just sit and open up your mind to the voices within.
You'd be amazed at what comes out.
