When you are really ready to quit - and only when you are really ready to quit (otherwise you are just wasting your time and all of us exsmokers have wasted such time), try the new medication from Pfizer, called Chantix.
http://www.chantix.com
The success rate is extraordinarily high - at 20%, one year later.
Good luck with it.

My husband and I both had tremendous success with the SmokeAway plan (found at Walmart and Walgreen's). It's just herbs and vitamins. It helps to flush all the "crap" out of your body and at the same time controls the cravings. Our mutual best friend died the very day we quit smoking AND we had an upcoming concert that had already been booked that we still needed to perform, without our buddy as the bandleader AND there were no sound guys to help when we got there AND the day we were supposed to finally fly back home (with the widow by the way) our airline had a major computer glitch and it caused every flight that day to be cancelled and we'd been at the airport since 4:30am for our flight AND the airline wouldn't give us money for a hotel AND then we still had to perform at our best friend's memorial service! We used our smokeaway the entire time and my motto truly is "if we could do it, anyone can. Smokeaway is da bomb". On a lighter note, I also noticed that I didn't experience the fatigue I was used to dealing with when I went a day or two without a smoke. The 2 weeks I was on Smokeaway and dealing with everything I listed above lands in my "Top 5 most stressful and distressing times of my life".

I just have a suggestion. If you are allergic to the patch and gum and you have will power to cut it off "cold turkey", the only way would be chewing small ammounts of tobacco like "Red man" or similar long cuts. It does the same effects of smoking but you can control it better reducing the ammount of tobacco every day til you won't depend the cigarrette or the chew no more. That was my option and it worked. The major problem trying to quit is controling your mind, and the mints or gum don't really work because while you're chewing gum or mints your mind is continuosly thinking about nicotine. Good luck!

1. Whenever you take out the money to buy a package of cigarrete, put the money to a saving box, suggesting a transparent container that you can see the money. With time goes by, every day just look at the container with the money piling up, you will be glad to see how much money you have saved. By doing this, you will be more decisive in giving up the smoking after you realize that how much "money that you have burnt in the past". It could be enough for you to buy a house, a car, a boat, or even holidays or be able to retired earlier ;)
2. Get yourself a bag of flavorite candy or some dry fruits, if not gum.

I had been smoking for over 35 years and I tried to quit many times but never succeed for long. I remember quiting twice and each time it lasted 3 years but eventually I returned to smoke. I did not used any gum or whatever but sheer determination & self descipline but it's easier said than done. I'm still smoking but really, really hope to quit smoking one day and I think I'll. Good Luck to both of us!!

I agree that zyban really does work, just be careful it speed my heart rate up, and I had to come off of it. My doctor told me that cigs carried two addictions. He said that your hands had to stay busy to keep from automatically reaching to light up.You would actually be surprised how much rolling a pencil between your fingers will ease the need to light up.Give it a try, you have nothing to loose.

Don't give up. Keep trying. I have been w/o
a cig for 30 years after 15+ smoking.
Cold turkey but many attempts before it 'took'.
Worked at Philip Morris USA when I quit. All
the free cigs I and friends could smoke. LOL!
