Isn't it obvious?

Yes it is pretty obvious. I expect a lot of the Old Testment was stories that were handed down orally for many generations and then finally written down when written language was developed and means for semipermanent writing became available. And I bet the the people who wrote it down had a vested interest in having their society continue to believe the stories because it gave them positions of power.

The New Testament is more interesting, because there is sufficient evidence to believe that it was written by several different people telling a story with enough consistency to make it a plausible on first glance. But its pretty clear that even the first writings were more than 30 years after Christ's death, and the stories were probably inflated during those years.

By the way, it is quite likely that there was a man Jesus Christ who was very charismatic and taught some of the stories told in the NT. He was probably crucified -- crucifixtion was pretty common at that time, and it is documented that other "trouble makers" who were preaching apocalypticism were summarily condemned to death the same way. But there is no evidence of any of the miracles attributed to Christ.

Well Melissa, most of us know that the Bible was written by several men over the course of thousands of years. I careful study of the writing styles and the appearances of the different books in the Bible as well as the fact that it was written in several languages would be most obvious indications that it was not written by A single man. And the men who wrote the Bible were all relaying the messages that they felt God had communicated to them.
Smile. God loves you.

yes,we do realize the Bible was written by people who were inspired by God, you see, God wants us to know he exists not only through words, but by Jesus, his one and only son who performed miracles. People back then didn't believe he was the messiah so it's easy to understand why there are those people such as yourself who are not believers today. You have people praying for you without your knowledge, it could be a friend, teacher, family member, or simple people like me. God wants you to get to know him through miracles that are performed today. You've heard Dr.'s say "the only explanation is a miracle" about their patient. I won't write any scripture because without having received the Holy Spirit it sounds a lot like reading a foreign language that you may not have learned yet. You must start in with small steps. Babies drink milk, they can't chew on meat. One small step at a time. God wants you to know who he is through his word, his son, through love, one of the greatest gifts you can receive, the Bible and God is love. You have the curiosity, otherwise you and others wouldn't be in the Religion & Spirituality part of answers.yahoo. If you don't know who you are or where you're going like my husband, God loves him too, give the Purpose Driven Life book a try!! See ya,love ya, bye!

"inspired" literally means God breathed. hope that helps you sweets...

Yes, the bible was written by man. However, these men were under the influence of the Holy Spirit when they wrote the Bible.

Supposedly God spoke through the men that wrote the scriptures. Even if that was true, I'm sure the men used the free will god gave them and used it as a sort of soap box for their personal beliefs.

Many men, not a man...

Do you read the Bible?

look at it from a whole new pov...the book isnt about anyone but YOU. it is a book of YOUR life.....

If you give a damn...contact me and I'll get deeper into it...whether you are a believer or...obviously not.

I refuse to try to "convert" you just show you the deeper truth.

If that is the only observation you have made about scripture...allow yourself to be enlightened

Men make mistakes, but we are assured in the bible its self that it was inspired, there for making it truth. Often men have made mistakes but the meaning of the words of the lord have been preserved. You will find the same account of things that happened in different books of the bible. Things like the numbers of people involved may be different but the moral of the story is the same.

Most followers of Judeo-Christian traditions recognize that the Bible was transcribed (written) by people. Most also believe that the book was inspired by God.

How clear the inspiration was, and how much got lost in the translation, is a subject that has been debated for thousands of years.

It must have been written by God through men who were inspired... because every prophecy in it has come true down to our day. What man could pull that off?
