Certainly this isn't an absolute and I would like to see how the study was constructed, but I must admit that I am not surprised. If that intelligence is accompanied with a broad knowledge with an increasing desire to learn, an independent mind can be expected. Such a combination is not as susceptible to control of thought as the converse.

What studies? How come you don't provide a link to them?
I'm not religious, but the whole concept of IQ is dumb. The only thing that IQ correlates to statistically is how well you score on an IQ test. Totally irrelevant and worthless in my opinion.
IQ DOES NOT correlate - at least not positively - to how happy you will be, earnings potential, social conscience, how good of a parent you will be, health, athletic ability, creative talent, interpersonal skills, etc. So what exactly does it tell us about a person's potential?

That's illogical. I would think that the higher the IQ, the more one would be open to other options besides biased scientific theory. I think that the studies may have been based on those with lower IQs possibly tend toward fanaticsm and using religion as a crutch ( which is why religion is often called "the opiate of the masses).

Damn, and all this time I was thinkin' I was sorta smart. Oh, well. Which way did he go, George, which way did he go?
Late note: DD, you and the Christmas turkey have a lot in common. You are both full of it. Scientists are able to read the Bible and understand what it says a lot better than the fire and brimstone preacher. That's why most of us find NO true inconsistencies between the Bible and science. To the contrary, science pretty well confirms the Bible. You quote stats. Are you aware of what Rene Descartes said about statistics? There is the lie, the damned lie, and the statistic, in that order. He was quite correct.
A retired rocket scientist, among other things.

Yes, I would agree.
Religion asks of one to believe things that are far beyond the realm of the intellect. Spiritual Truth, granted, is beyond the intellect -- it is known as INTELLIGENCE.
Intellectuals are usually a very scientific breed -- a hard evidence type. Spirituality doesn't offer much evidence in the physical world. It is beyond faith and belief, beyond thought.
The search for Truth is followed by both the Intellectuals and the Religionists -- BOTH are religious pursuits in their very own very different ways. The two, however, will never meet.
Truth cannot be found by traditional means -- religious or intellectual. Thus we have the GREAT PARADOX.

Jose A,
Does the study incluse those that fail to give the source of the study? Wouldn't those with a higher IQ provide a source to their claim, unless they really had no such study, and were also faking intelligence. Ya' think?

Which studies? What data sets? You've need to offer more data for people to intelligently offer an opinion then just "Studies show..."
My gut feeling? That's nonsense. Some of the most articulate and intellectually sophisticated people have been theologians (i.e. Thomas Oden, Charles Spurgeon, C.S. Lewis).

Actually, the studies I have seen are slightly different.
There tends to be a higher correlation between lack of intelligence and fundamentalist fanaticism. In other words, people who don't think about other things also tend to take their religion literally and at face value, without question.
Many intelligent people are very devout. Most are just not fanatic.

In what areas do we need more study? How to properly sling excrement at passersby or the best way to eat a banana? How about flea mapping...the most likely areas to find them on your buddy's back?

Any person who believes in Jesus Christ has a higher IQ than the most "intelligent" of your pagan cohorts.
Tell God how intelligent you are on judgement day and see if that scores you any points with Him.
