big dogs are NOT for boys...your friends suck! and heres why when they are carrying their tiny little dogs in a dark ally and some scary guy is grabing your friend what is that dog going to do for her? they are most likely jump out of her arms and run away. now if your in this dark ally with even a 50 pound dog that same guy is probably going to run away... I have two 50 lb. dogs myself and i sure as hell am not scared to walk my dogs at night b/c of that

I have Great Danes and Newfoundlands. The little dogs are just not my style...... besides, if I wanted a tiny pet like that.... I'd get a ferret. I'd say cat but most cats are bigger than the tiny dogs!
Not that there's anything wrong with them.... some people love them but personally, for me.... I have to have my big monsters lol.
You should see my 9 year old daughter walking down the street with 2 180 lb. Newfies. lol. Too funny!

I think your friends are idiots.
I have always been partial to the bigger breeds myself.
Little dogs are cute and cuddly but they can be so in someone else's yard.I want a dog that will protect me should i ever be confronted with danger on a walk. Not one I have to pick up and run with.
Big dogs are not just for boys. But they do tend to need alot more exercise and be more expensive then the smaller breeds. So if you've got the time and the money then have at it.

I have a miniature poodle, and I'm 6'4'' 250 solid pounds. Very Heterosexual, played college football and the whole deal. The type of dog you have is in no way a reflection of who you are, it's just your preference. I chose a small dog because I live in a condo in the City, but if your lifestyle would fit a large dog go for it.

I have had Rottweilers, German Shepherds, all the way down to Min Pin. It is up to you . Do you have the money to take care of a big dog. A big house, Shots, Food, Heart worm protection? All these things have to do with their size and weight. And with a big dog you have to take it for much longer walks thank a small dog.

LOL, do what you feel most comfortable with! After all, you will be living with the dog, not your friends!
I have two 80# German Shepherds and am involved in the sport of Schutzhund. My husband thinks it is great I can handle both dogs!

What you want is what matters, not what your friends want. You know what you like and when it's a pet you need to make sure it's what YOU want because it will be a choice you will have to be happy with in the long run for both you and your new dog.
No one should make this choice for you, and take your time selecting one... good chemistry is important too.
Good luck!

I think you should go for a bigger dog. Leave the ankle biters to the girls who are too afraid of a real dog!

I love to have big dogs. Great Danes are great pets too. They have huge hearts and love everyone. Although they are big. But also I have a lab, and a Pitt. love them all.
