Go to Lowe's (they are much more friendly than Home Depot) and browse the different design books in the paint section and interior design sections to get free ideas.

I just redid our master bedroom. The walls are wallflower (Behr paint) which is a kind of moss green and the ceiling and trim are celery, which is kind of an offwhite with a sage tint to it. That way while it isn't too much color, it is very serene and you could do the bed in green and red throw pillows or any combination you want from hot colors to cooler ones. Or do yellow accents, with the sage-ish walls and big sunflowers and something whimsical like that.

Paint and a new bedspread will go a long ways and not cost too
terribly much. Sometime really cool spreads or quilts are on sale at places for under $40. Brylane, or Touch of Class have clearance sales, Target, Wal-Mart.

But - plan ahead as to at least what area of color you want and don't make a snap decision and then regret it $25 a gallon later.

I'm not sure why viplav said that your room will get messed up just because you're in your 20s. Our room is spotless an I'm in my 20s. Anyway, paint your walls a neutral color. There are some really pretty light tans colors, or creamish brown color. Our room is purple and sage. My bedspread is purple, sage, and gray. I have a lamp with a purple shade on it, a tall candle holder with a purple candle in it, a vase with eucalyptus in it and just other accents around the room. Pillows and a nice, comfortable looking bed should be the focal point. I just love decorative, throw pillows. They make a huge difference. Just pick a few colors that you really like, and go from there. Mix them around the room. But don't make things too matchy match. It'll look too young.

You could have 1 wall (main focal point) a different color than the rest of the walls. Makes a bold statement. Do you have a favorite bed spread? Pick colors from that. Home Improvement places usually have a 'color wheel' to look at. This helps you find the matching colors to the dominant one you have already picked.

See link below for example. Be creative and good luck to you.

if you want to stick to the orangey colours, you could go for an ethnic, Mexican, terracotta theme, lot's of reclaimed wood, stained glass light shades and black wrought iron (this is what my room looks like at the moment) or there's the theme/colour scheme in my living room which is a mixture of a pale coffee (late) colour and a Wedgwood blue, the furniture is all different textures, fairly eclectic, and I love it, put some black and white prints on the wall, have a wooden floor and throw done some chunky furry rugs and voila you have a beach house Chic thing going on, it may sound cold but it really isn't...a nice chaise in the corner works too, it makes an ideal place to lounge about while also being a spare bed when mates are kipping over...
good luck with the redecoration,
ttfn Babs ;o)

Get some earth tones [ coffe brown, caramel tan, ivory ] for bedding, curtains, throw pillows. Add some brass in a large mirror, picture frames, etc. Get a large rubber plant or small tree [ fake is OK ] Buy a desk with shelving, good office chair, at least two lamps [ for bed and desk - you'll have a matched set for later], a nice reading chair, and some underbed storage bins. If wood, a medium light to medium tone [ ash, pine, oak ]would probably match best with the pine. Add a few paintings, posters, or photo collages [ family, friends, or vacations ]

You sound adventurous, try Hawaii theme, such as palm, tone your wall down with a cream color, if your floors are a brownish color, work from the floor, furniture then wall, you can always change the wall, real cheap..If you want to keep the orange color add a black large picture frame with no glass or border, put inside the blank small photos, then palm trees in corner of one /two walls with a chair and up light/ can lights behind them to reflect on the ceiling for mood at night. go to the Big Lots for alot of your accessories real cheap, palm / ficus trees at your local target or Lowe's stores,,etc...

I love to decorate but you gave me NOTHING to go on.. what color furniture.. what type/color floors,... what color woodwork, door casings, etc

I can understand why you are going out of your mind.. with orange and white walls, I am surprised you are not totally insane by now..

If dark woodwork(door sills, doors, window sills, etc) paint them a Swiss coffee white(latex semi-gloss) and the walls, a latex satin finish paint probably a light wheat beige(NOT a beige where there is yellow predominating)... but a soft, warm light beige.. I call it wheat... then the ceiling.. paint it the same color as the walls but in a flat color. It is the IN thing to do you know and you will be surprised at how it transforms the room... As far as lighting, etc, I have NO idea what your present lighting is.. what your furnishings are.. what your window treatments are.. I do know that lighting is very important for me as is the fans(if you have a ceiling fan)... I have just finished remodelling two of my rooms and I am very very happy with the results

Check out your closet. What color are the clothes you wear the most. Next look around the rest of your house. How have you furnished it ,Modern, shabby chic, etc. What are your favorite possessions. If you take a reality check on yourself, by the 20's, you've probably have started to develop your style.Decorate your bedroom in soothing colors, that you love, surrounded by things you love. This is a very private room in your house.Make it a room that is YOU, not something someone told you how to do.

Try fabrics.... You can get them for like $1 a yard you can use them for curtains and pillow covers. You can alos find fabrics that you can use for rugs, as long as you put a trim on them.
I have used this before in a few rooms and I can not sew very well so I use Stich witchery and it works great. You just Iron it on. It's great for hems on a curtain or for making pillow cases and it holds really well.
In my bed room I used fabric to cover entire wall. I used the iron on stuff for the hems, then I used Velcro to attach it to the wall. (we're not allowed to paint in my apartment). Then I used some other fabrics to make a cover for the bed and some pillow cases. I took this fluffy fabric and doubled it up, added a trim to it and made an area rug to seperate the room into areas (Sleep & Office). I bought a couple of lamps at the thrift store and spray painted them and covered the shades with some of the same fabrics. It all cost me about $80

Jewel Tones are best for some one your age, Like Emeralds, Saphire, Rubies.....
