I am a total novice at this...... I know I need a HDTV reciever/tuner ... but i'm not sure... Please give me step by step instructions when you answer. most detailed answer gets the points!!

yes you'll need a HDTV tuner, after you get the tuner, just connect those cables to it and tune for local HD programme, and you'll have your TV tuned to HDTV.

You can buy HDTV tuners from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc, but I would suggest e-Bay. But you only need a tuner if you want to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna. If you can get digital cable or satellite service, you can use your TV as is.
