WOW - I'm so surprised that almost everyone took this question to mean you are poverty stricken and can't afford your child! I hope it's not the case.
I took it as what activities you can do without having to spend money. So here's a small list...
-Park
-Walk
-visit a pet shop or animal shelter
-after you guys eat at home take the child to one of those little
play yards that most fast food restaurants have now.
-Library
-If you're near to one go to the beach - kids love sand!
Hope this helps

In my town, the public library has a story and play time for free twice a week. Even if your library doesn't have the story time for 3 yr olds, you can still check out books or movies and have a fun time!
Other things I've done w/ my kids for free:
Go to a pet store. It's fun for the kids to see the puppies & kitties. Our pet store lets the kids hold the bunnies and hamsters.
Go to Chuck E. Cheese. No, you can't eat there for free but the do have some free games for the smaller kids and an indoor play area with a slide & the tunnels. You can do all of that for free, too!
McDonalds, Burger King, etc - many of those fast food places have indoor play areas for kids. You don't have to buy food there to play there.
Park - not only can you run & play in the park, my kids just LOVED to feed the ducks and fish there. You could take bread or crackers from your home to feed them.
Go to your back yard and have a "picnic" or a tea party.
Find a mothers/fathers group in your area that offers free weekly/monthly meetings with playdates for the little ones.
Some of the larger cities have free art museums. You may not think a small child would like to go but all of mine have. They think it's fun to get out and see new things!
Go to the beach & build sand castles.
Go to the woods and collect pretty autumn leaves or pine cones.
Play "dress up" with mom or dad's old hats, clothes, neck ties & shoes. Kids love that!
Color or paint together.
Oh, something else - play some preschool computer games together. We've found some good ones on PBS.org and through their Sprouts link.
Hope some of these ideas helped. Have fun!

Children love Easter egg hunts. When my children were smaller and need some new activities I dug out all my plastic Easter eggs and put things in them like small candy, a nickel, a jingle bell whatever was around the house. If it was pretty I hid the eggs in the yard, if it was raining I hid them in the house. Then after the eggs were found we would let them eat the candy and then glue the other items to a piece of cardboard and make a collage that we displayed in their rooms. We went to yard sales and purchased different kitchen items like large spoons, old pots, plastic bowls for them to play in the dirt with. We lucked up and found an old sieve for .25 and it was the hit of the month.

First, Wow did a lot of people misread your question or what! I babysit a lot. I do all kinds of crazy things. Build tents. They jump out and scare me over and over. I act scared every time. The dollar store has that colored foam soap, hours of entertainment. You can play with it on the kitchen table. It's not just for the bath. Not at my house anyway. We go outside. I put bowls of water on opposite ends of the sidewalk. With little cups. They will mess in that forever. We read. Watch movies when I am tired. Play school. Go to the library. The park. All these things are within walking distance. We make grass soup, Water, grass, sticks for stirring, throw some rocks in. Flowers. Watch ants. Color chalk on the sidewalks. Lay on a blanket and look at the clouds. Just use your imagination. Anything can be a toy. Best of luck.

Local city parks preferably with playground. Take a stroller and a blanket and snacks and drinks. Play for awhile, then take a slow stroll with the child. Find a shade and spread the blanket and have a picnic. Then after eating or snacking. lay on the blanket with both of you looking up at the sky and watch the clouds. See how many animals your child can find.

You can always play make believe. You can read stories, make cookies if you have ingredients. You can draw, play in the dirt, walk in the woods or park.Hugs and kisses are pretty fantastic for both. Watch cartoons, just be together, it's not always what you do, but that you are together. Good Luck!! PS., Hope the money situation improves, times are tough right now for alot of us, you are in my prayers.

Parks, nature walks, if you live in a large city, walk downtown. Go to the river and talk about nature. Just look around and you will see all sorts of things that will interest your child.

THE library cost nothing in our town. WALK in the park and play on the play equipment.GO on a nature hunt and collect things like leaves,PINE cones are fun. Do some art like cut the comics out and make your own scrap book. I would take a walk around walmart and make a list of things he or she likes. LET them walk to the toy department, THAT cost nothing to look.
