Shar Peis ears can be very complicated, usually a Shar Pei has multiple types of bacteria growning simultaneously in their ears - I was a co-owner and a co-breeder of Chinese Shar-Peis for 16 years, so this is topic that I am intimately familiar with. Personally I shared my home with 5 Shar Peis.

First of all, ask you vet for an ear cleaning solution and ask him to give you some of those real long special made q-tip looking ear cleaners that he has - they look like giant q-tips only the base is wood - anyway on day 1 use the vets cleaner and make sure that you clean the entire inner ear flap as well as deep in the ear canal -

When the canal is clean to the eye and or the q-tip comeing out of the canal is bleeding stop - now put some neosporin into the ear canal and very lightly into the inner flap of the ear - you do not want the ears to be greasy because greasy ears collect dirt -

Do Not Listen to Anyoone Who Tells You To Use Rubbing Alcohol - that will dry out the skin and cause the skin to crack and bleed - not good

On the next day I want you to clean the ear with Listerine - good old fashioned listerine - I learned from my vet that the normal ear wash that a vet makes up was killing some of the ear bacteria but it was also feeding some of the other bacteria - so the **** in my dogs ears would turn from black to like a grey or a dark cream color - so I started switching between the Listerine and his eas wash and within 10 days not only did my SharPeis ears clean up but all the swelling went away and I never ever had another ear problem again.

I eventually stopped breeding the Shar Peis because I could not find a line of Shar Pei that did not have Ameyloid in the genes and all of my Shar Peis died before they turned 7 due to that terrible disease, and that is not enough years for me to have a dog.

Let me also tell you that if you switch your dogs food to one of the new human grade dog foods like Dick Van Patten or Paul Newman's Own, your dogs general health will improve, and their life expectancy will increase by at least 1 year maybe more and these new human grade foods also use only organically grown grains and vegetables that do not use chemical fertilizer.

These two brands of human grade dog food (wet and dry) are available in most Petco and Pet Smart retail stores and you can order them from their own web sites and you can have their food delivered right to you door - they even have an auto ship program so you can order your food to be sent at regular intervals and you never have to worry about forgetting to order your dog food.

If you have any other Shar Pei questions, feel free to contact me directly at my regualr e-mail on angelamthomas@optonline.net

I think they are great dogs and I still miss my babies - I had 2 horsse coats and 2 brush coats and 1 brush coat who was also a dilute with pink eyes and nose and feet - she was adorable.

Best of luck with your Shar Peis

Shar pei's unfortunatly have a problem with there skin. They were to be bred to fight the pit bull with there small eyes and loose skin. But it rips too easily. So show and people dog is what there main purpose is right now. They have wonderful temperament. Anyway to answer your question allergies and skin problems is a trial and error kind of thing. You just keep trying different things. I would start with a medicated shampoo. Keeping ears clean is the most important. I would try that washing the ears twice a day. with hot to warm compresses. That doesn't work I try a parimite dip. A dip that kills mites ticks mange fleas. Dip the ear every other day in just a small glass and wash cloth. If something is in there that should help. I wonder if they took a culture of the ear. That could help too. If not I question the vet expertise in these matters. But think I try those. Think something should get better. But when winter comes they should get better. Just do what you can for now. Please let us know how the dog is doing. I have other ideas feel free to add me if you want more ideas. thanks dave

I have a son, Joey Niceforo, who is a young 27 year old tenor, with a group called "DESTINO" recording in Vancouver Bc, Canada.

For the last few weeks Joey has had a cold. Just a few days ago he developed an ear ache, a swollen ear and loss of hearing. He was diagnosed with serous otitis media (middle ear infection).

The major concern we have is that Joey and the Group DESTINO have been booked to open the Marie Osmond show in Disney World on April 3,

Have a quick remedy for our son??

Joey's ear got better just before flying.

He also got the special ear plugs for flying, and arrived in Florida, from Vancouver, on April 1st. On April 2nd he told us the ear was almost 100 percent, and he will, with the other, great DESTINO tenors be performing, in the COLORADO BALL ROOM DISNEY WORLD tonight at 7 pm.

This help was so effective, and helpful, to our young Canadian tenor, Joey Niceforo. I'm sure this input and therapy advice will, and has helped others.

If you get ear cleaner off the shelf it smells better than the home remedies. But if you want to go the cheaper route mix one third peroxide, one third alcohol, and one third water. The mixture gets warm right away so expect that. It will go away after a couple minutes though.
Take a cotton ball, put earr cleaner on it, put the cotton ball at the end of your index finger. Stick cotton ball directly into ear canal and wipe out, wiping inward can push gunk back into the canal. Every dog is different, but mine need their ears cleaned every two weeks. But then again I am really anal about keeping them squeaky clean.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU0iP

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

the best method Ive found to clen a dogs ears is to take a cotton ball & dampen it w rubbing alcohol & simply wipe out the outer ear & the inner ear where you can reach, dont dig in deep as you could damage delicate tissue in there but just wipe it out thouroughly as you would your own...dont go overbaord on the alcohol, just dampen it enough to remove the dirt dont have it dripping their ear

Just take a warm wet washcloth and gently rub the inside of the ears.

Rubbing alcohol and cotton balls. It's what professional bathers use.
