I recently visited relatives in Iowa and noticed all of the windmills. I am wondering if the farmers get paid by the electric company for allowing the windmill to be put on their land. If so how much?

In a manner of speaking. The windmills create electricity, which lowers their power bills.

Allot of people now sell electricity BACK to the electric companies thru the windmills they own. There was a great write up in the Progressive Farmer about this last month. It allows neighbors to help each other and lower costs and pays for itself over time. Then when they get surpluses they can sell it to the co-ops and make more money!

Being formerly of Iowa and having a windmill.. the answer is No, the farmers are not paid for having a windmill.. Windmills are used for the purposes of using the wind power to pump water for animals
