I have always had yellow labs and my aunt has always had black labs. To me the black labs have always been hyper and not very smart. However, the yellow labs are highly intelligent and almost TOO laid back...to the point they are almost lazy! Anyone else agree?...any person expierence with either of the two?

Not only have I had both but have worked in a vet office for 5 years. I have found, by majority that black labs are more hyper then yellow labs, who are much more laid back. I think brown labs tend to be more goofy.

I have a yellow lab and he is a little hyper outside but, he still listens to commands very well. In the house he is laid back. My friend has a black lab and he older than my dog but, is hyper all the time. I've known other people with black labs and have literally gotten rid of them because they couldn't handle them anymore.

Dogs have different personalities just like us. I've seen hyper yellow labs and very smart black labs so I don't think there is a difference between them. Maybe you and your aunt did not train your dogs the same way...

There is no difference. Genetics play all the roles in their attitude, along with how they are raised. We have Yellow and Black Labs, and there is no difference in the two.
I have seen Yellow Labs that are insanely hyper and Black and Chocolates that are so lazy they wont get off the couch.
So, it is just luck of the draw and how they are raised.

I think that the reason that you see differences, is that the black Labs are more commonly bred by 'backyard' breeders, as they are the more available of the two...(the yellow often being more expensive) so temperament and intelligence isn't a breeding priority with the inexperienced or uncommitted breeder..
A well bred Labrador of either color will behave the same..
I have had 2 black Labs, trained by the Foundation for the Blind..both were super, super intelligent...the foundation had their own kennel, to assure that health, trainability and intelligence were the breeding priorities...

No,my black lab is very smart. He is very lay back and gentle. Mechanically, he figured out how to unlock his crate. He hates walking in the rain, he understands that thunder precedes rain. When he hears thunder, he immediately asks to go outside, so he can be back in before the rain starts. He know somehow can keep track of the days of the week, knowing what time I get up during the week vs weekend.

My yellow is a goof ball, he is a moose, he collects socks, always has to have 5 in his collection. When I am doing laundry, and take the sock, he goes into the hamper and gets out other dirty ones, always keeping his stash at 5. He has a sense of humor

Neither one is lazy, they will walk miles everyday, unless it is very hot or very cold outside.

I think there all too hyper and crazy till there about 5 till 8 years then there all wonderful dogs. Over the years I can't say one is anymore different then the other. Even male vs female the breed is over all the same I think. But the age has a ton to due with there personalities

I have always thought the yellow lab seemed smarter, at least the ones I've ever been around.

Different dogs have different personalities. Color has nothing to do with it since Labs are all the same breed. So no, color has no effect on how the dog behaves. "Color genes" do not affect psychological factors.

They are the excat same dog, just different colors. Thats like twins 1 with blue eyes 1 with brown eyes. The reson why you experienced differences is because all animals are unique!
