That hard to answer because so much of our food comes from other countries, cobbler for example is really an English dish (some may claim German) not America but we have Americanized in some respects. Some menus that I would consider are:
Hamburgers and hot dogs (grilled)
BBQ Beef (brisket,) beans, with slaw or potato salad and iced tea .
New England pot roast, with carrots and potatoes
New England Clam Chowder served in a sour dough bread bowl.
Fajitas or Tex-Mex
Venison (if you can get it)
Turkey and dressing
Sweet potato pie
Hope this helps.

There's all kinds of classic american food - if you go southern, I'd look for fried chicken, corn bread, and a peach cobbler or a blueberry buckle.
If you go California, try fish tacos
If you go all american, then it's burgers and fries (and if you ake them yourself, they are nothing like McDonalds).

Try beer can chicken. Not only is it unique to the US but, it is also a nice conversation piece. I bet they've never seen anything like it in Italy!
They make a rack that you can buy to sit on your bbqer just for this chicken. They sell them at Walmart.
I would make coleslaw and garlic mashed potatoes for sides.
Beer Can Chicken:
1 can, good quality, beer
1 to 2 pounds roaster chicken
Salt
Pepper
Garlic powder
Molasses BBQ sauce, recipe follows
Rinse chicken thoroughly. Season inside and outside with salt, pepper, and garlic. Using can opener, open beer can. Place chicken upright on can, so can is inside chicken cavity. Place on a roasting pan and roast in a preheated 350 oven for 50 to 60 minutes or internal temperature of 150 degrees F. Glaze with BBQ sauce and finish cooking on grill.
Beer and Molasses BBQ Glaze:
1 1/4 quarts chili sauce
1 1/2 pints molasses
1 1/2 pints light beer
8 tablespoons Dijon mustard
8 tablespoon chili powder
2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 1/2 tablespoons crystal hot Louisiana sauce
5 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/3 tablespoons liquid smoke
Combine all ingredients in sauce pot and simmer until reduced by 1/3 of the original volume. Cool completely and pack for transport.
Yield: 2 quarts

Pick one or more of each group:
Meatloaf, Tuna Casserole, Chicken Pot Pie, Chile, Barbeque(Steak, salmon, burgers or hot dogs)
mashed potatoes, potato salad, macaroni salad, grits, steak fries, biscuits, corn bread
cole slaw, green salad, green bean casserole, 3 bean salad, Jello with or without the little balls of cream cheese and walnuts or pieces of fruit
apple pie, cherry pie, peach cobbler
or go crazy with a Roast Turkey and all the trimmings, a regular Thanksgiving meal. That way you're fixing them lunch, too.

it rather is going to likely be warm or quite heat in the two sessions. Many Italians do circulate on holiday throughout August, yet that may not likely impression you while you're interior the optimal vacationer aspects. on the city the place I lived for the final 13 years, many eating places, shops and various the inn closed for some weeks in August, yet that wasn't a touristic section. the two sessions might have heavy crowds of visitors. overdue June - early July is extra probably to be cooler and extremely much less probably to bump into heavy thunderstorms reckoning on the place you circulate to. you have got a great time no keep in mind which you decide on.

Ummmm....cobbler sounds good. I'm from the south and could live on pinto beans, mashed potatoes, turnip greens and cornbread. Beef stew would be good...what about corned beef and cabbage with potatoes and carrots cooked in the broth?
