They can be very good apartment dogs. A King Cavalier Spaniel is a very regal dog, about the size of a cocker spaniel. They have very solulful eyes and great personalities. They can be stubborn and they are a little high strung. You need to set the rules up front from when they are babies, make sure you crate train your spaniel, this is so important for you and for the dog.

Dogs are cave animals and when you train a dog to go into his crate, the dog learns that the crate is his special place, he eats in there and sleeps in there and if he does not feel well or if just wants to be left alone - he will run to his crate where he is protected on all 3 sides and his face is in the middle of the door, so he feels super safe and secure.

As an added bonus, with a crate trained dog, you can travel anywhere because your dog will always have his personal bed with him, you can fly to anothe city and in the hotel room, you place your dog into his crate and the hotel is safe, and the dog is safe and the maid can enter your room and clean and change towels knowing that the dog is safely in his crate.

These dogs do not need a lot of exercise - once around a good size block - 20 to 30 minutes is sufficient for a spaniel of this size.

They are extreemly affectionate and they have a ton of energy and will do well in agility or Rally O trials.

They do require regular brushing and combing and I recommend that you ask you vet to microchip your dog so in the event that you dog is ever lost or stolen, you have a good chance of having the dog returned to you. The new chips today all share the same frequency now so anyone who has a scanner can verify a dogs owner with one wave of the magic wand.

Please be a responsible dog owner and have your dog spayed /neutered. If you hear click clack when your dog is walking on the floor, that is telling you that his nails need to be clipped.

Also allow me to recommend human grade pet food with organically grown grains and vegetables. These foods will increase your dogs lifespan and general health greatly - check out
Dick Van Pattens brand and Paul Newman's Own brand, both available at Petco and Pet Smart stores - and also available on the internet - chek out their own web sites where you can set up automatic delivery of their products right to you door step as often as you want.

Don't take my word about the quality of the dog food - read the labels for yourself and you will see how and why I have come to this decision to support these human grade quality foods for animals. I recommend equal amounts of wet and dry foods, twice daily and if you are afraid of your dog getting chunky yet you still want to be able to give your dog lots of treats - take 10% of the dry food from the morning and afternoon meals and set those nuggets aside in a bowl and use them as treats.

They are great dogs. They are pretty laid-back, low energy. They don't need a lot of space, but make sure you take them out everyday so they can get exercise. Otherwise they will get fat and lazy. Lazy is alright, but fat is just not healthy. They are real sweethearts. I've never met a bad one. They are expensive, though. Be prepared to shell out some big bucks. I've heard anything from $800 to $2000. I guess it depends on where you live and what kind of quality you're looking for.

Great apartment dogs! They are fabulous at adjusting to whatever life they are given. They still need to be walked, but do not require a yard. They also require regular grooming.

Is it your parent's would-be-dog? Or a prize that you have earned?
