You have to be at least 18 and a US Citizen, with no children. You must have a skill a host country wants. 95% of the volunteers have a college degree and the rest have vast experience, so there are very few 18-year olds in the Peace Corps.

They would love you if you were a civil engineer with an emphasis on small, simple water and sewage systems. Teachers and health care workers are always in demand. Glass-blowers and candle-makers are not in demand. The Peace Corps is like an employment service in some ways. If, to take an extreme example, you are the world's best left-handed glass-blower, but no country asks for one, they won't place you, no matter how much you want to serve.
