Good luck with this one.
Get in a "crunch" position, legs up & bent, you on your back.
Twist to the right to touch your right hand to your right heel (don't move your legs). Twist to the left to touch your left hand to your left heel.
Do 50 of these without your shoulder blades hitting the grounds.
Wave hello to your obliques in a week.

the plank is nice.
you are in pushup form except your elbows support you
make sure to keep your back straight, depending on how strong your abs are, the longer you can hold the position.
once you become a pro ;) you can try an exercise ball, find something of equal height and try the plank again, great burn
another one just in case is the barbell rollout, this one is very hard, you take a barbell and extend your torso and your arms across with the barbell and try to pull yourself back.
Also, abs that are truly beautiful also require a healthy diet, if you are sabotaging your abs by eating junk then it doesn't matter how much you work your abs

Leg lifts with ankle weights also seem to help the abs.
Plus there is a 'twist' exercise. At some gymns, there is a machine where you grab onto a frame with your arms, then twist a weight with your lower torso. It strengthens your abdominal muscles too.
Remember, when doing all ab exercises, suck in your belly button so you are trying to touch your spine with your navel. That will produce a flatter stomach, or so the Pilates instructor said.

here is the best ab exercise you will ever do - lie flat on your back, have someone stand over you with their feet on either side of your head - wrap your arms around their legs and lift your feet up with your legs straight - have your partner push both of your legs towards the floor and the exercise is to not let your feet hit the floor - to do this you will have to use your abs and they wil be absolutely FRYING after about 10 seconds - your partner can push you legs in any direction they want and you will have to stop your legs/feet from hitting the floor and then bringing your legs/feet up to your partner - do this until you cannot perform another rep - I played football in college and this was the only ab exercise we ever did

You might want to try some palates moves. They focus on the abdominals and use the breath and control. I can't really describe them in this space. There are classes everywhere including YMCA's and DVDs available. You can probably find a DVD at the library.
