Ok, so Jesus was Jewish, and Jews don't believe in Hell. So why do so many Christians constantly threaten mild mannered good hearted people like myself with a lake of fire?

When I was in Catholic school, they taught us that Hell was just that, a seperation from God and its love. However they also taught us that the people who would go without God's love could choose to be reunited with it at any time if they would admit that they were wrong.

Hello Brickitybrack
Because they lie..

Jesus was killed in the monnth of April when He was 33 and 1/2 of age. Count until His 34th birthday.

Christians constantly tell the world that Jesus was killed and placed int the tomb on a Friday just prior to sunset and rose early the following sunday just prior to sunrise. That is two nights and one day. Jesus said: Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Did Jesus die..... Christians constantly tell the world ther were three wise men ( Magi ) There is no way of knowing how many wise men that made a visit to Jesus.
We do know that by the time the Magi had gotten to where Jesus was, His parents had moved him into a house and he was now being called a young child, which means that he was ayear old or older when they arived to present their gifts.
Mat 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
Did you notice: The wise men did not visit Jesus until after He and His parents were moved into a house. He was no longer spoken about as a baby, rather a young child. It is believed by scolars that He was a year plus in age.

There is no ever burning hell.

The English word hell is written 23 times in the New Testament King James version. It is translated 11 time from the Greek word hades {hah'-dace} which means grave.
It is translated 12 times from the greek word geenna {gheh'-en-nah} which should have been rendered "Gehenna" or "Gehenna of fire". ". This was originally the valley of Hinnom, south of Jerusalem, where the filth and dead animals of the city were cast out and burned; a fit symbol of the wicked and their future destruction.
It is the place of the future punishment of those that will not enter into the Kingdom of God. A one time punishment not an eternial punishing.

An Italian Florentine poet, Durante degli Alighieri, better known as Dante Alighieri or just Dante, June 1, 1265 – September 13/14, 132, created the idea of the hell that is taught to the world. Through his stage play la Divina Commedia (The Divine Comedy) the whole world has been and is being decived about a place that does not exist nor will it ever come into being.. The Divine Comedy describes Dante's journey through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Purgatorio), and Paradise (Paradiso). It was only a play, the works of the imagination of a man. However the Roman Catholic Church took the idea and ran with it and has long since convinced an unsuspecting world that
the writings of Dante are indeed an acurate rendition of a place of eternal punishing of all evil people. God is in total disagreement with the Catholic Church and all other that preach and teach that there is an ever burning hell, a place of eternal punishing, a place where the evil go after death.

Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day is coming, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yes, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day thats coming shall burn them up, say's the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Malachi 4:3 And you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, say's the LORD of hosts.

Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth

Jesus believed in, and taught about, Hell. Luke 16:19-31 gives an example. The Old Testament has references to Hell. Hell is real. The lake of fire is where Hell, and those who are in Hell, will be cast after the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15)

There are many images of what hell is.

The fire image in scripture is a reference to the valley of ghenna, Jerusalem's garbage dump where there was a constant fire. All the unused animal parts from the temple offerings as well as the bodies of outcasts were thrown there.

A second image is that of "an outer darkness". In essence this is simply an absence of God's presence. It finds a scriptural base in Christ's words, to the thief on the cross, "Today, you will be WITH ME, in paradise." The implication is that anywhere God is, there is paradise and where God is not is hell.

Those who "threaten you with a lake of fire" are 1) playing God, because judgment is God's domain, not theirs. 2) trying to control the behavior of others or 3) using the Bible as a sledgehammer instead of what it is, a love letter.

Christians bear witness to the truth. Christians are warning you that unless you repent of your sins and trust Jesus to save you from the wrath of God, then you will end up in the lake of fire. In relation to others you may truly be a mild mannered good hearted person but in relation to God no one is good. When you examine the 10 Commandments you will notice that you and I and every other human has broken these commandments in either word, thought, or deed continuously throughout our entire lives. Therefore, we do not deserve Heaven. But God is good in this, Jesus (God in the flesh) died for our sins and defeated death by being resurrected from the dead. If you repent of your sins to God and trust Jesus to save you on the Day of Judgment you will be saved. Reference Revelation 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Who hasn't told a lie, right? Seek the Savior. The Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible uses 4 different words for hell. The words are Tartarus, Sheol, Gehenna and Hades, look them up. Not ONE of them refers to a literal BURNING HELL. What they do refer to is death, or the "common grave" of mankind.

This came from Pagan religions around the time of Constantinople, around 350-400 A.D. when he incorporated Christianity into his Empire to solidify it.

Also, Jesus did not consider himself just a Jew. But he said he was a Spiritual Jew, circumscied not of the flesh but of the heart. And this is the same rule for Christians, we are Spiritual Jew and Spiritual Israelites and THUS WE SHARE AS ABRAHAMS DESCENDANTS AS BEING NUMBERED AMONGST THE STARS. Now, Christians are God's Chosen people, not the Jewish Nation of Israel. (Romans 2:29)

Great Question!

Hell came into the picture when Satan (who had a different name) WAS an angel, and thought he could defeat God. So he was thrown out ... he went to live somewhere because he rejected God, and we call it hell. He knows he can't win, so he's taking all the people he can down with him. God is going to win out in the end, and Satan knows it.

What I've been told. I'm going to research it soon. I read a realy great book about it once, but I lost it and I can't remember the title. Bummer.

Because some Christians don't know how to tell people that Jesus loves them, without trying to make themselves out to be a holier than thou person.

First of all, sorry you get threatened. A threat isn't much use; a friendly warning may be.

If you have a bible, please pick it up and look through the four gospels. Jesus spoke on hell quite a lot.
