and why name it that way. "suicide"

they were called suicide doors because of the way the opened up,,side by side,,they were dangerous in there time,,i had a car with them on it,,and the would fly open,,if they weren't shut really good,,also they were easy to hit when someone opened one up,,and you were passing by,,it was hard to keep from hitting them,,and the were ugly,on any car,,good luck,,hope this help,s.

suicide doors are rear seat doors that open to the front instead of the back. In a moving car, if you door is not completely closed, you can generally open and re-shut it, regardless of your forward speed, but with suicide doors, the wind can yank the door open. If you are holding the door handle very tight, you could be yanked out of the car and onto the pavement, to get run over by others. I don't know if there is a recorded case of this.

they were made 4 looks but there called suicide doors 4 one true resene only its because so many times when the driver would try and drive away well the door was still open the one getting out of the car would be hurt bad or killed

Because back in those times (when all vehicles had doors that opened in that manner), seat belts were non-existent and the latching mechanisms were not the most advanced therefore, it was nothing uncommon for the doors to come unlatched and blow open. Hence, making it a danger to the passenger in the vehicle while in motion.

suicide doors are simply doors that open the wrong way, and the term suicide is because if there was a car coming tword you it would hit you first and not the door, hence it would be suicide.

I rode around in the back of one of the new FJs with those suicide doors. I liked the car but hated being in the back seat. I couldn't get out. They say that the doors are named that because the person who sits in the back won't jump out while you're driving. But the ironically, it makes you want to kill yourself by the time they let you out.

suicide doors were pretty much the standard back in the 20's. i guess they are named because of how they opened.
