I just moved into my new room (my first off-campus), and I'm still figurin' this stuff out. When I'm done cooking myself a burger, should I pour the leftover grease down the sink, or throw it away, or what?

Never pour it down the sink, it will clog your drain terribly. Then, the plumber will have to snake your drain. Grease sticks to the pipes and doesn't move. you will have a plumbing bill to pay for. Double bag it and throw it in the trash.

Don't throw directly into the sink. You will be in big trouble if you do, because the oil will get stuck in the pipe. You don't want to spend extra $$$ to have people come to your house and fix the problem. Do you?

The best way is when the grease cool down, get a few of the used paper towels into a plastic bag. Pour the oil in there and throw in the trash right away.

Never throw it down the sink or you may end up with plumbing problems eventually. I usually put into a recylced tin can and then throw, if a lot then set can into fridge/freezer and throw when solid.

If you end up with a sink that has built up gunk in it...put 1/4 -1/2 cup baking soda in sink and then pour 1/2-1cup vinegar down the sink. The reaction wil bubble in clean out the sink for you! Works great in the bathroom as well.

Don't ever throw it down the sink it will clog your sink up. Typically I put the hot grease into a can to cool. Coffee cans work weel or a soup can will do. If a can is not available then allow the grease to cool before putting it into the trash. Paper towels work well to wipe the grease out of the pan. Good luck learning all of the small but important life lessons!

Leave it out on the counter in the pan or bowl until the next morning. The grease will harden and pour the liquid down the sink with hot water. Use a paper towel to scoop the grease out and put it in the trash. If you use liquid cooking oil then you can just pour it down the sink. It never hardens. But lard or animal fat from cooking meat will clog the sink. That is the stuff to leave out and let it harden.

You should keep an empty can like a coffee can and pour the grease into that, and then dump it in the trash...Never dump it down the sink, it will clog your sink, plus the heat from the grease will damage the pipes.

No, do not throw it down the sink, ( causes clogs and not good for sewer system) instead, get an old can (coffee can works well) put the hot grease in there, store in freezer until can is full, then throw away in garbage (with lid on the can)

NEVER pour it down the sink. Even after you pour it into a container to discard be sure to WIPE THE PAN WITH A PAPER TOWEL before putting it in the sink. Great Question!

I pour mine in a coffe mug - let it cool - then scoop out of mug into garbage. You can clog your sink pipes if you keep pouring grease down it. If you fry bacon - put the grease in a mug - and keep in the refrig. - it makes great seasoning and would be good for frying other things (I only keep my bacon grease about a little over a week though, and throw it out if I haven't used it - I think some people keep it longer).

put it into your cold oven and close the door until it is cold, dont pout it down the sink you will clog the pipes up. If you need to discard it put it in a container when it is cool and throw it in the trash but dont do this when it is hot
