Apples (Malus domestica) are from the rose family Rosaceae and bear pomaceous fruit. Apple trees are small and deciduous, with a dense twiggy crown and alternate leaf arrangement. Flowers are produced in the spring, are whitish/pink, and have 5 petals. The fruit matures in autumn, and is typically 5-9 cm in diameter.

Oranges (Citrus sinensis) are actually hybrid trees (possibly from pomelo and tangerine crosses) from the Citrus family. Trees are small and evergreen, with thorny shoots. Orange blossoms are white with 5 petals, and the fruit is a hesperidium (berry).
