well, that is your teachers fault really. Well, actually, most teachers nowadays probably don't know what the pledge actually means. Remember, it was written at a time where everyone was determined to be an American Citizen. Today, you have people that still hold onto their past country heratige or citizenship and refuse to give them up as per US citizenship laws. Perhaps why the level of Patriotic Pride has gone down so much in the past decades. Before, everyone was proud to be american regardless of where they went. Today, most adults and kids are spoiled on teh idea of being "free" but have no real understanding of what the word means or entails.. Its not brainwashing. It was a statement taht true patriots said and stuck to. Today, everyone lives jsut to make themselves happy.

I don't believe it was created for the purpose of brainwashing. All though possibly to some maybe it could become
sort of brainwashing I guess.
It was originally designed and created as a pledge to the country which was created with religion in it. That's where the word GOD comes into play in the pledge.

When I was a kid, I didn't think anything of it. When Bush started trying to pass the flag-burning amendment and when my state passed a law mandating the pledge everyday, I got kind of creeped out by the forced declaration of loyalty. If our country is truly awesome, why would we need to be forbidden to burn our own flag and forced to recite our allegiance everyday? Wouldn't we want to protect our nation's flag and already know in our hearts that we loved this country?
I'm not talking about the moment of silence-that's out of respect for our soldiers (and all the other victims of this war!).

No kid really knows what it really means. It may be an ATTEMPT at brainwashing, but if it is, it's a very poor one. I think it is an attempt to instill pride in one's country into children and not meant to be evil. Even though I personally disagree with the "Under God" part. And it clearly doesn't work.

i don't know about brainwashing, but as a child i too said it everyday in school without really putting any thought into those words. it wasn't until i got older that i really thought about what it meant. i have nothing against the meaning of those words, they stand for solidarity and something good... it's just that freaking "one nation, under GOD" that just annoys me because it doesn't represent the whole population and what this country stands for... liberty.

We all did. That doesn't matter. We have to pledge our allegience to our country every day. Especially now when our boys and girls are dying for the flag and our country daily.

No, what would be brainwashing about it. Now if it said something like hail hitler then I would be a little worried.

It's called honoring your country and all the men and women that have died for YOUR country. If you call that brainwashing..you have something very wrong with you.
