a question from my sons grade 5 homework......

From a psycological point of view, some colors can be universally a symbol of certain things. (ex. red as blood, yellow as the sun, blue as the ocean, green as the plants, etc.) And from these colors, we can connect other things to them. (Ex. Heroism as red, warmth as yellow, coolness as blue, nature ad green.)

Colors express emotion because they are a limitless palette that are used to evoke a response. Clearly the use of color is deliberate, or every painting would be in black and white.

colors can express emotion in countless ways:
through architecture/computer graphics courses i have learned that seeing red/purple colors in movies in particular may symbolize death..certain colors are better for classrooms, while others may be institutional-like..associated emotions with various colors:..anxiety, nausea, calmness (blue), etc

we know because we feel something when we see them. Shouldn't your son do his own homework. I'm sure he's capable of doing it himself.

The question is not how do we know that they do, but how do we know HOW they do. That is a tricky one. A very purple conundrum.
