Hiya,
All I can find for when I'm heading over in November, that is moderately cheap and doesn't take 4 hours to get to Anaheim is the shuttle bus (US$15) and it drops you off at your hotel.
Not sure about the quality of hotels for $50 but you can stay at Rodeway Inn Maingate for like $40 a night and it's right by Disneyland, like I said though, I'm not sure what the hotel's like you might have to yahoo it and see some reviews.
PS. You don't have to worry to much about Disneyland being within walking distance because many hotels have a free shuttle to Disney otherwise you can catch the ART for like $3 a day which will give you unlimited rides throughout the Anaheim area.

LAX is long long way from Disneyland. John Wayne/Orange County (SNA) or even Ontario would have been better airports to fly into. Renting a car can be inexpensive in LA, so consider doing this as taxis are not user friendly in the LA area and public transit is not readily accessable. If you plan on spending any time sight-seeing, going to the beach, going to dinner, going to Knotts or Six Flags, etc, renting a car is the only way to go. The rental office will be able to give you the best directions for the time that you arrive and taking into account any freeway closures.
For accomodations, check out expedia.com or a similar service. Most hotels will list how far from the park they are and if they have a shuttle. Once you have it narrowed down to 4 or 5, come back and ask a new question regarding which one is the closest/nicest/etc.
Good luck to you and have fun!

It's going to be difficult (California is not a budget friendly place), but it's doable...
1. Using transit, you'll have to take the Metro Green Line from LAX to Norwalk station, and then transfer to Bus #460 (one every 30 minutes) for the Disneyland Resort. The fare is cheap...it's only $1.50 with a transfer. But it's going to be slow, and you'll have to pass through South Central.
Once you get to Downtown Disney, some hotels/motels run free shuttle buses back-and-forth throughout the day. If yours does not, you'll have to take a short taxi ride.
2. For $50.00, you're looking at Econo Lodge, Travelodge, Super 8, and Motel 6. Each have branches nearby. Again, you'll have to ask them about shuttle buses though.

Hey, Im from New Zealand and have been planning our couple of days, in Anaheim.. its bloody hard organising from this side of the world. We are staying at the Castle Inn Suites, they look fine. I know they arent goign ot be 5 star but look clean & tidy and they have been really helpful to deal with. We are right across the road from Disneyland, I know we are probably going to get lost there so booked on convience to Disneyland rather than living the high life in a swanky hotel!! Hope you have a great time.

the cheapest way to get to disneyland from an airport is to fly into orange county airport and take the airport shuttle to the hotel. i believe we stayed at the rodeway inn maingate http://travel.travelocity.com/hotel/HotelDetail.do?propertyId=34887&startIndex=0&showMap=0&sortOrder=ascPrice&sortAlpha=-1&tab=features&SEQ=11580283280088112006&hotelQKey=-8948275990740680763 during our stay a couple of years ago. it was so close to the front gates, we walked across the street and a little bit further, less than a 1/2 mile, to the entrance and downtown disney. the rooms were perfectly fine and safe. i think we paid maybe $40 a night.

It's along way from LAX to Disneyland, rent a car. Good luck on finding something decent below $50. You don't walk in LA, you drive.

It probably is cheaper to rent a car, especially if there are more than one of you.
For hotels near Disneyland see the link below.
