your cousin needs to be under a doctor's supervision. in the meantime don't do anything rash. that kind of weight did not appear overnight, and will not be lost overnight, but she can lose it. In the meantime, she should not drink any soda, but drink water in its place. There's really no other advice she should follow until she gets to the doctor! the doctor should also advise her about walking or some exercise, but again, the doctor needs to advise- you don't want her to collapse from something bad happening. please get her to the doctor.

Good for you for your genuine concern -- however this is an issue that should be addressed carefully by your cousin's parents.

12 is a particularly difficult age for a girl, and approaching this in the wrong way could make the situation worse. Maybe you could talk to your parents about tactfully talking to her parents about scheduling an appointment with a nutritionist.

I have has tremendous success with the Weight Watchers plan, and have seen many teens do well with it. If you need to lose even a little weight, you could join and casually invite her to join you (you will need an adult's consent though.) You could also join a gym or a pool and invite her to come along.

Losing weight for good may mean losing it very slowly (1-2 lbs per week is healthy.) She will have to adopt a healthy lifestyle to have any hope of keeping the weight off. The worst thing you could do is suggest a fad or liquid diet to get the weight off quickly. Besides being unsafe, she is likely to end up weighing even more over time.

Good luck!

Have her drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. She can eat anything really as long as the portions are not to big. Weight Watchers is good at teaching portions and it does work. Maybe you can do it with her so she doesn't feel alone. No eating after seven and try to get in at least 20 minutes of exercise in a day. She can do it, just let her know you are there to help her. Just remember it does take time to lose weight, and it won't happen over night. Good Luck to you and that little girl.

First of all, SHE has to want to lose weight in order for any program to be effective. She's still a growing girl, so she has to maintain a healthy diet. She should cut down on breads and pastas, eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, and drink lots of water (instead of soda, iced tea, and other high calorie drinks). She needs to start exercising a little at a time. Make it fun for her or she won't want to continue. You could be her training partner and exercise with her, but do it at her level so she doesn't get discouraged. Have her try bike riding, swimming, roller blading, or anything else she enjoys.

Why don't you invite her to go for a mile or two walk with you every day. You could invite her to go roller skating, play sports, or ANY physical activity. Also, don't give her candy or any other food as a gift. Instead, give her something else like clothes, a card, a new pair of shoes, etc.

Anything and ALL of those things.

She needs to develop a healthier eating habit, run as much as her body can endure, even if it's only for 2 minutes, she needs to be more active, and she should do some simple exercises.

That's a lot of lbs. for a 12 year old.

Well don't call her fat, maybe try to enroll her in sports and talk to her about dieting, what to eat and not to eat and tell her something silly like it'll make her better in sports instead of saying diet b/c your fat lol
