I usually cook it for 40 minutes to be safe, I think an hour is too long, 40 min isn't too short or too long, its just right.

Boiling is not the best way to cook chicken. There is no flavor to it. If you are making a stock, use a thermometer and cook until it reaches 165 degrees.

i think 30 mins is ok. Well if your cooking it lfurther, half cook is ok also.
Depends on how many times your going to subject it to heat or in laymans term, depend on how many times your cooking it. If you're no longer cooking it further after boiling, 30 mins is enough. you can see from the chicken meat itself. Ei, try this for your chicken..

I usually boil it in a large pot (salted) on high for 45 min to an hour depending on the size of the chicken.

It depends on the size. 20 to 30 minutes should be fine. If you want to check if it's cooked all the way through, you simply have to get a fork and pierce it. If blood still comes out, then it's not yet cooked.

Chicken/poultry should always be cooked all the way through.

Put a lid on it. Take the avice of the others about no red.

Why are you boiling it? Next time spray the pan, spice, place lid on. Let cook on medium. It will be great. Unless you are making broth....

If that is the way you are cooking it, why not just cut out the middle-man and just flush it down the toilet?
