She is planning on moving away so I want to buy her something that she would use often so that she can remember me. She is having a baby boy and my budget is $75 - $100.

Thanks

What I do is go to wal mart or craft store and buy a wicker laundry basket and fill it with diapers, baby wash lotions, a mirror that you clip on to your review mirror so you can see in the back sit. It also attaches to the back window so you can see through your review mirror. And I also get other handy things like a medical pack that has thermometer and nail clippers and other goodies in it.

They Love it to death, they can reuse the basket for there dirty clothes or special toys. Even pack diapers and formula and other things in it for a trip.

Get her a baby monitor, they are $50(+) and very useful. A new parent inevitably is sleep deprived and always concerned about their new baby. This gift would allow them to leave the baby in another room and yet hear if the child cries -- giving them invaluable time to do other things, but also gives them the gift of peace of mind. It would be practical and useful on a daily basis. This would also leave you some money in your budget for something like a beautiful frame for the baby's photograph or one taken of her with the baby. Sentimental items are valued too, so I'd get both. I'm sure she'll appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Here is a list of things I cannot do without when it comes to raising my boys.

A good monitor- researching reviews will pay off on this one. I used it for both my boys.

A glider w/ ottoman- it makes those late night wakings a little more bearable. The cheapest I have found for a brand new one was $89 at walmart. I later bought a used one on craigslist.com and also love it.

A pack n play- If you get one with a bassinet she can use it for the first 3 months and then everytime she goes out of town. My two year old still uses his. Craiglist.com is the best place to pick one up for cheap. I bought 2 through craigslist. One for $75 and one for $40. Both were practically brand new and had tons of bells and whistles with them.

A swing- My first did not like the swing very much, but the second loves it. It is worth every penny.

Baby Einstein videos- Wonderful to educate kids and get some cleaning in. I bought mine brand new on ebay for cheap.

Exersaucer- Love these things. It helps kids feel independant during the stages of not being able to sit up and crawl on their own. Again, craigslist and ebay are probably the best places for these items.

If you are wise with your purchases, you can get a few really good items for your friend without spending the full $100. Some people might not like used items, but if you are picky on the condition you can pick up items that have only been used a handful of times. Good luck shopping!

Everything listed already would be extremely helpful...if you are looking for something more like a toy for when the boy is a bit older...what about a saucer? They are these big things with all kinds of toys attached that the baby can sit in when he is around 4 or 5 months...and can still fit in up to a year (or whenever he learns how to crawl out). Ours has been a lifesaver because it is a safe place for my son to be and he loves it! My advice would be to find one that does have some toys, but no too many noisy ones! Good luck~!

1. Diapers (lots)
2. Carseat
3. clothes
4. formula (unless she is going to be breast feeding)
5. Wipe warmer
6. bottle warmer (unless she is breastfeeding)
7. blankets
8. bottles
9. small bathtub for baby (so that she doesnt have a hard time
holding the baby while she bathes him)
10. medicine bag

I would do a basket with a variety of things. The medicine bag came in handy for me after we had our daughter. The lady who gave it to us is a nurse and she is a good friend of the family's. I found this was so useful because alot of the time when we didnt have our second vehicle I couldnt very well go to the store when hubby was at work. Hope all of these helped. I gave you a variety so that you could decide what you though would be best.

A rocking chair -- great for use with the baby and has the added bonus of being useful even as the baby grows up so your friend will think about you often and for years to come. 75 - 100 dollars can buy you one at a retail store or try to find a second hand chair that you can refinish.

Two things most people don't think of: a Night Light, or a few of them. One for the Kitchen, one for the Baby's room and one for the hallway. This is so Mom or Dad doesn't have to be blinded in the middle of the night by bright lights while tending to baby. It helps them to be able to get back to sleep right away because your brain doesn't know it's time to arise yet like when you have regular lights on. You know, like going to the bathroom in the middle of the night with one eye closed. So you can get back to sleep. The 2nd item is a door hanger announcing "sleeping baby". I saw really cute ones in Hallmark stores that are little pillows with it written on it. You could even make a homemade one. Some people don't think babies should get used to complete quiet at nap time, but if Mom has had a rough night, it helps if the doorbell isn't ringing.

Moms get SO much newborn stuff. Give her something she can use with a toddler. I loved getting bigger sizes of diapers, size 12month or 2T clothing,or how about a glider rocking chair? They are wonderful. My husband got me mine and had a small plaque made and attached it to the back. You can get one at Toys R US for about $100 sometime less if you are there during a sale. This is a gift that she can use to rock this baby, the next baby, and someday grand babies. My husband said he got the plaque from an engraving place in our local mall. He had both of our sons names put on it...but you could leave her a sweet message.

You should make her a gift basket. Make it out of a laundry basket... so she can use that too! Buy her a few outfits. Put in a pack of diapers (she'll appreciate that). Buy some bath supplies - sometimes people forget! If you have any skills, make her a blanket, make her a scrapbook/photoalbum.

Oh, my best friend bought me some lingerie, for the first time after the birth. It makes you feel nice to be remembered.

Have a baby blanket made out of baby blue cashmere with a nice silk ribbon border. You should be able to buy the materials needed for under that price, and have it professionally made, Have the babys initials monogramed into the center or in a corner. If they dont have a name definately picked out yet then just do the last initial.

What about something personal, like a monogrammed blanket or a diaper bag that has his name monogrammed on it. I received a blanket with my daughters name on it, and it was one of my favorite gifts. She is 21 months and uses it all the time.
I appreciated everything at my showers from wipes to diapers to monitors. But is was the homemade things or less expensive things that meant the most and I remember. My best friend got me a hand print kit for my daughter. That was really special and it came with a frame. I made her hand print after she was born and it was so cute. It is hanging in our home. You can get those at Wal-Mart or any baby store.
Those two things were really special to me, the blanket and the hand print kit. Good Luck!
