I wouldn't think so but a bad proportioning valve could.

No, the sensor will not harm the cylinder.

What most likely happened was this; there was a tiny bit of rust inside the cylinder and when the cylinder was pushed back to make room for the new shoes, the rust caused some damage to the seal inside allowing brake fluid to leak out. It happened to me because I neglected to change the brake fluid. I used to faithfully change all brake fluid every two years. Moisture can build up at the cylinder where there is the greatest change in temperature from hot to cold. The moisture eventually causes rust and the problem you now have. When I was diligent at changing the brake fluid to get out all the moisture, I never had a wheel cylinder go bad.

That shouldn't be too big a job. Just get a new cylinder and replace it. The rebuild kits are difficult to do and don't usually last very long. You will need to remove the brake line from the old cylinder so spray the line and fittings with a good parts loosener the day before you start.

no it wont blow out a wheel cylinder,,i own a repair shop,,and also own a 98 stratus,,what cause the cylinder to blow is a lot of use on them,,i had to replace one,,because some one pulled out in front of me,and i really slammed on the brakes hard to keep from hitting them,,and it blew one,,but most of the time they will last a long time,,if your brake shoes were really worn down some, this can effect how one works,,and could cause it to blow one out,,after you had replaced the shoes on it,, i have seen this happen a lot on them,,other wise just consider it normal wear ,,and tear,,i did,,and just replaced both of them,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.,,i will add this,,mine has a 120 thousand miles on it,,so figure i done good considering the mileage i got from it.

Look the car is almost 11 years old and the wheel cyl leaking onto the abs sensor caused it to fail. Or gunk to build up on the sensor wheel make sure sensor and sensor wheel are clean.

I honestly couldn't see how. It's just a sensor that sends the wheel speed to the ABS computer.

If you have the type that works under high pressure and you probalby do, the answer is yes it can and if you are not careful it can also blow up in your face.
Please be careful when working on that type of braking system.

No. It is just an electronic sensor that measures rpm on a toothed ring.
