Two thick slices of bread Wholemeal bread is tasty and healthy, white bread will also work if it is of good quality.
4 Tbsp Olive Oil
2 Cloves Garlic, crushed As always, adjust garlic according to taste
Salt and Pepper

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As usual we recommend using organic ingredients wherever possible.

Preheat the oven to 200 C (400 F).
Trim the crusts from the bread then cut into small cubes.

Put the olive oil and crushed garlic in a bowl. Season with a pinch of salt and a generous amount of freshly ground black pepper. Mix well.

Transfer the garlicky oil into a shallow dish. Add the bread cubes and gently mix by hand until the croutons are well coated. The croutons must now be cooked immediately.

Place the garlic croutons on a baking tray and cook for ten minutes.

Leave the garlic croutons to cool then place in an airtight container and store in the fridge - they'll keep for a day or two.

Warning: Avoid nibbling the garlic croutons before storing - you'll probably end up scoffing the lot!

I make them, not with a written recipe though. Cut dry bread up in desired size. Place cookie sheet with sides in oven with one cube butter. Turn oven on 350 degrees. Melt butter. Add bread an toss with a turner or some sort. Sprinke seasoning salt, parmeson. Bake at 300 degrees for a long while.

Note, use only as much bread as to not make layers on cookie sheet. If you use garlic, use very little. WHen the croutons look crunchy, turn off oven. Let sit in oven until cool. Put in jar, use fast, they spoil. Home made ones do not last like the packaged ones.

Croutons Recipe

3 potato hamburger buns or hotdog buns or other bread
3-6 tablespoons olive oil or canola oil
1/2 tablespoon lawry seasoning salt

Cut buns into bite size pieces.
You can also use bread, which can be fresh or 'day-old'.
Place pieces in a bowl and drizzle oil over as you stir to coat.
Feel free to use more or less oil than is called for.
The more oil you use, the more melt-in-your-mouth they will be.
Sprinkle with seasoning salt.
You can also use garlic powder, oregano, Italian seasoning or any combination of them.
Bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes, stirring once.

1 tablespoon chilli flakes
4 slices thick white bread
(add more chilli to suit taste)

Remove crusts from bread and cut into small cubes. Warm oil in shallow oven proof dish. Add chilli sauce and flakes to oil, mix WELL. Add bread to mixture and coat all the cubes.Transfer to baking sheet and cook in the oven for 10-15 minutes, turning once, until golden brown.

The BEST part about these are that they are NOT FRIED.

Just take some stale bread and cut it into bite-sized cubes.Heat some good olive oil in a saute pan, and fry the bread in it until it turns golden brown. It depends upon how you like your croutons as to how you season them. Garlic and herbs are nice to shake them in (while still warm) or you can chop some garlic up and add it to the oil while sauteeing.

Or you can do it in the oven as well.

All you need is soft bread slices and you can season them however you like. I like parmasean cheese and garlic on mine. You slice it into small squares whatever size you want. Then lay them flat on a cookie sheet or pizza pan and bake them on a low heat about 325 until the dry out and are crispy. Take the pan of them out of the oven and serve them or put them in a covered container or ziplock bag. As long as they don't get air they are fine for a few days.
