My lower back has been hurting when I try to sit up or turn over after lying on my back. And that's the only time it hurts. It's a SHARP pain at the base of my spine, slightly to the right (my right) of the spine. Muscle relaxants and Aleve or Advil don't do anything for the pain. It's been going on since May and it doesn't seem to get any better or any worse (although, sometimes it subsides by morning, and sometimes it doesn't).

Quite honestly I know exactly how you feel. My back is terrible as well. Your lower vertebrae are called the Lumbar vertebrae. Continuous stress on them from lifting, walking/running/, even sitting will hurt them and eventually damage them. Your best bet is to go to a doctor. Find out what is wrong. I have heard of a new therapy that actually "vertically cracks" or pulls to return space between vertebrae for cushion...here is the link and good luck! I know it sucks.=0(

If you're overweight, you may be putting undue stress on your lower back. It sounds like the coccsis (sp) at the base of your spine. May be rubbing a nerve. The chiropractor can put your muscles back in place... you are out of alignment.

Go to the doctor. I have had tons of back problems and I have actually had two torn discs in my back that needed steroid shots to help. It could also be your kidneys...sometimes they can hurt on one side only. Definitely go to the doctor though, your back is nothing to mess with. One exercise that they always told me was to lie down on your back and bring one knee to your chest. Hold it with your arms for 10 sec. and do a rep of 5-10. Then switch knees. Make sure you keep your back and abdomen on the floor. And go to the doctor.
