Because most Christians that I have encountered are trying to prove "Mormonism" wrong so they learn whatever they can...most of the time it is inaccurate unfortunately.
Also, I have heard from my Christian father that his church actually passes out anti-Mormon literature. Satan doing some influencing there??? I think so.

As a comparison, the Mormon religion is relatively so new in a world of ancient faiths that there was a lot more ability to document accurately the things that have happened in the world. Many of the world's religions lost much in terms of history during the dark ages where not a s much documentation was saved. The Mormons are actually officially named The Church of Jesus Christ of LATTER DAY Saints. The "Latter Day: part of that name speaks volumes on how the history was so well documented.

Well, the LDS religion was started in the United States, less than 200 years ago, so there is a lot less time distortion accusations to deal with. Joseph Smith and his followers left a mark on US geography with their religious following. This can be taught in the public schools (a small part of it) in a history class.

The same cannot be said of the Jesus Christ and the Apostles. Their stories took place 2,000 years ago, on the other side of the planet. It is illegal to discuss such things in a public classroom, under the guise of "separation of church and state".

Religious books are banished to the "Reference" section of a school's library, if they are found at all! Extra-Biblical stories surrounding Biblical characters are even harder to find, even in a regular library, much less a "school" library. I know, I've tried to find them!

There is a wealth of ancient historical information available, if only we can get our hands on it. Problem is, many "scholars" start with an anti-religious bias against such material, and banish it to the dustbin before people even get a chance to consider it!

Because "Mormonism" was invented quite recently, and "Christianity" was invented long enough ago that the details are somewhat hazy.

(Mormonism has its roots in Joseph Smith's wander into the woods in 1820, about 186 years ago. Christianity began about 1924 years ago, over ten times as long ago, probably as a scheme to get Gentiles [non-Jews] to contribute part of their earnings to the clergy)

Seriously, they know NOTHING about christian history before the reformation of the church and martin Luther.
They find it a hard pill to swallow that they have the catholic church to thank for the bible they worship and the crap they believe to this day.

Mormon history is an important part of American history. If you studied our history you would realize that.

I'm LDS, that means I'm Christian too (the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). Mormons learn about christian history in history class, in schools, in reading, in their religious studies. We learn about it partly because its our heritage too.

Mormons ARE Christians and usually people like to research as much as they can to see how much of it they can bash on, and they end up spending more time researching mormons and forget about everything else.
